Well I'd suggest checking him out for sure. I don't have an angle, don't feel strongly about her as a comedian in general. I am, however, always astounded to see the outpouring and am interested in people's arguments. Like it's the first time reddit comes off as really prudish. Since when is obnoxious and vulgar problematic? Why bolster this woman's career with free publicity by complaining so much that lines get drawn? If her content isn't aimed at you, and you don't like it, then don't watch. …

So.... It's not her subject matter or her topic that is the problem for you. It's that her subject matter is not aimed at you? Or that it's not in line with female comedians that you do approve of? Also, you've never seen anything by Louie CK but have an authoritative voice about stand up?

Nice find. Definitely bigger than the ones I listed. But still 1/4 what Amy is doing.... You google it, I've done my leg work

Absolutely. I think you could argue that he doesn't do so as often, or rely on it as much. But his bit about walking around all day with a soda can's equivalent of sweat floating in his asshole, or anything he's said on masturbation is pretty on par with what Amy is doing. Maybe we are more ok with dudes talking about their dicks?

Lol u/derhuckepackmann has seriously stringent standards for what "all over the world means" "You say you've been all over the world, yet you never came to my town. Liar!"

I think maybe you meant to use google

I literally said I can't find evidence of a larger Cho show than that. Can you?

Louie CK doesn't get on stage and talk about his genitals? Or go into great detail about how gross his body is?

You keep redefining your terms. Who said trailblazer? Who said first successful female comic? She made a claim that you can't refute, and so your method is to demonstrate how she is wrong about points she isn't making? Do you agree that she is the first female comic selling out arenas internationally? If she is the first, is that not a form of trailblazing?

OhgodIdon'tcare I apologize for the term boy's club, it clearly triggered you. I recant. Industry with an empirical prevalence of male success and recognition. Better? I just was curious about her claim about being the first female arena comedian why did you write me a dissertation? You mentioned a lot of notable female comedians (promotion). I mentioned that many of them talk about comedy as a difficult industry for women to break into. That's all that happened. Who would argue that arenas disc…

Schumer sold out the ACC in Toronto recently (20,000). I know Aziz, and Hart have done the same. Cook might be another example.

Ha! The closest I've found is this Sarah Silverman with capacity 10,000, though it's part of a gala with other comedians. I'm not really arguing with anyone about anything in particular... just wondering about the claim. People get mad sometimes

Dude, sigh all you want. It's not going to cure that nasty condescending tone you've caught. I didn't say that the industry wasn't welcoming to women, you defined boy's club as such. I said that it is an industry with more representation and success by men, and therefore a boy's club. I didn't talk about discrimination, you did. I wanted to see the veracity of her claim, which still is unchallenged. Having said that, it is an industry that is not terribly welcoming to women, and most female comi…

Good points. It really depends she means by arenas - I'm interested in her claim, not in what makes a true comedian I used the quote because it specifically seems to mention capacity (filled), but I didn't see any evidence of larger venues.

Directly from her website She performed all over the country, filling Carnegie Hall in New York three times and the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles twice 2,804 and 6,189 respectively. Huge numbers, to be sure. But arenas? It's just not a format that existed then

Yup, I've done that. I can't disprove what Schumer has said. Whatever your view, it's an interesting statement that she is/might be the first female arena comedian in spite of (or maybe in part due to?) all the online hate against her

Wait I didn't say one causes the other. I said comedy tends to be a boy's club which I think most would take as fact. Whatever the reasons, it is an industry in which men have more success/representation - even the plenty of notable female comedians that you mentioned would, and often have, agreed with this take on the industry. Then I said that arenas are especially a boy's club, as you mentioned, it's a somewhat recent occurrence and really only the domain of the hyper successful "rock star" c…

I have been. Those comics were my fist guesses, couldn't find anything that showed any of them had ever played an "arena." Each suggestion people have given I've looked into. I don't really care about Schumer. More interested in the claim she's made. Overall achievements are tough to measure, and not what she claimed

Play arenas? I can't find any evidence. I'm not arguing with you about Amy sucking - that's fine. I'm really ambivalent about her as a comic. I read her sentence about arenas and was struck by it. Could it be true I thought? I did some googling, but cant find any evidence that shows me she's wrong. For example, Margaret Cho's standup specials were filmed in front of audiences ranging from 400 to 1,800 people. I can't find larger Cho shows than that. When Schumer played in Toronto she sold 20,000…

I have been. It's tougher than you might think to get clear numbers on audience sizes. But I can empirically tell you that Silverman is playing at Casino Rama, and Schumer just played the Air Canada Centre

I don't know. She's big, but is still more likely to play Casino than arena

In arenas? Not at comedy festivals, or Vegas... I don't think so, but would love that to be the case!

Love Joan Rivers, but what was her largest show? The Apollo? Vegas? Not quite arena sized

Stand-up is pretty often a boy's club, especially when it comes to arena sized acts. Can you disprove?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
