Also the fact that the law is, apparently, there to protect girls from getting pregnant has some women here (rightfully imo) angry that pregnancy is something they need to be protected from in the first place. Just a throwback to Ireland's religious past.

Of course, very fair point. I was originally not trying to make this about defects though so I am in no position to disagree with you at all. I think the only thing I have a real problem would be parents who had an abortion on the childs gender (male or female) though I have not heard anything about it so hopefully that would be rare. Really, it's an issue that is well beyond my control or intelligence!

Not all birth defects mean doomed to die at a young age. The fact is, I find it disturbing that some people would abort a fetus based on nothing but potential defects. Because this is judging the fetus for something entirely out of it's control. As opposed to making a clean abortion, based on nothing other than their own desire to not have children.

I've always wanted one or two sons. I could be wrong, I've never really thought about it much, but I think the reason for that is because as a young man I never had a brother. I don't get why this has to be a competition. If a study proves female circumcision is worse somehow, it would only be an interesting piece of trivia. All civilised countries, even those which do not have routine infant circumcision, need to bring in laws against infant circumcision unless when medically necessary.

Also I just want to add to your point: a lot of people (incorrectly) assume that rape is male on female, so even if whoever wrote the dictionary disagreed with that viewpoint, they would at least have to give that definition. fair enough, I'm just not convinced that this is an issue. It might effect insects and fish but there would need to be quite a lot of estrogen in water to effect us at all, I'd guess. And if it was having an effect, I think we would hear about it. Our bodies produce some estrogen anyway

It's good you have that sort of freedom over there, absolutely, but the EU laws have done a lot to prevent a lot of hatred starting up in the EU, as there are a lot of immigrants here which some people would have a problem with. It has happened, in the UK at least it is fairly easy, and the adoption agencies are very supportive and indiscriminate, however on an article I read most problems with single males adopting were when friends/colleagues would suddenly distrust them. One chap who was in charge of a scouts group had a sudden decrease in numbers after he adopted.
