I had a partner that was abusive and I was always worried if I spoke to her like that that she would start breaking my stuff. I ended up just moving to a new apartment and ghosting her instead. In your two examples, you did not so what the OP suggests. You did exactly what I would have done. They broke the rules, so you ended it right there. You did not train them to do better. You simply ended the relationship and pursued someone else. You did not correct the behavior and continue the relationship as the OP suggests. You just ended it and moved on.
