If anyone thinks women are naturally 'sweet' they clearly haven't met any.

As far as I'm concerned the scouts is an archaic institution in need of updating. I don't see it as relevant here unless everyone was made to go as a child for some sort of gender reinforcement brainwashing on a large scale.

I don't really know what you mean...I'm British. And although we have scouts (I googled it) they're all about camping and learning how to start a fire with two sticks.

How can you possibly tell someone how to be a man/woman? That's ridiculous. It's not about what gender you are, it's about making the best of yourself as an individual. There's no blueprint for the perfect man/woman and as long as people think there is, the more people will suffer.

Surely there's no such thing as a 'real' man. Every individual is different. Also, this can be applied in exactly the same way to women.

Fuck! Who told you that bullshit?!

That's fair. I honestly wasn't trying to cause any upset.

I agree with you and thank you for this. I was more under the impression that feminism was a nebulous, blanket term for a number of different ideals that had a common goal but it seems the negative outweigh the positive. All I want is to focus on equality. That is all I want!

Thanks!

I was talking more about sexism in general. Apologies if phrased badly. Sexism can be applied to both men and women is what I meant.

Good response. Thanks.

Thank you! I think I'm coming across as a bit of a dick but I appreciate the discussion and the education. :)

This is what I'm discussing. The label 'feminism' has too many negative connotations that people can't see past. I don't go on any of the feminist subs but may do so in the future.

That's what I mean. I think the 'feminism' I identify myself with is just equality, pure and simple. I don't follow any sort of groups or subscribe to websites or whatever. I just think there are issues - such as lower pay and lack of female politicians - that need addressing.

See, I don't even know who they ('NOW') are. Relax! I'm just discussing this, not saying anything is wrong or right! If you don't agree that's fine but the name-calling doesn't help anyone.

Aw, but...cookie! You're far more educated on feminism than I. I guess my views come from how I'm personally affected, for example: I don't want children however, there is the possibility I'd be overlooked in the job market for a man with similar qualifications because I might get knocked up in the future, even though: no I won't!. That pisses me off but at the same time I can see the economic reasoning behind why it happens. So, does this mean, if I call myself a feminist that I automatically i…

I understand this. I think what I'm trying to say is that extreme feminism is damaging for women and alienating for men. I don't identify with that at all. And to bring up an old chestnut: it is like saying every Christian is an affiliate of Westboro Baptist Church when they're clearly not. (It's a shitty example I know, but you get my drift).

I think I over-simplified. My ideals are kinda dynamic and the more I learn about male inequality, the more I identify with men's rights. I don't consider myself an 'activist' in either respect but take a bit of a middle ground. Some may think that's a bit lame, I suppose. The thing is, there are wrongs on both sides and I often feel like the balance has been lost in place of a name-calling contest. I'm sorry if this is nonsensical. I'm not the best at expressing myself!

You can be a feminist and not a 'feminazi' at the same time.

I'm sorry you feel this way. You are entitled to your opinion.

I would say I'm a feminist. But I also advocate men's rights because I believe inequality works both ways. I still believe women are sidelined in many ways but the same can be true for men; both instances can be quite different. I hate that the feminist movement has been hijacked by a bunch of female psychos looking to implement female dominance and I do not stand for that at all, but at the same time I would still say I'm a feminist. I think the term has been twisted along with the original aim…

I consider myself to be feminist but don't think anything on the list is acceptable.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
