The video game industry is bigger then the movie industry, and I tend to judge it the same way. Would your life be out of balance watching as many hours of movies? Is the quality of the content positive, mildly negative, or extremely negative with regard to violence or how it represents women? (It’s hard to find purely level up movies, but I still watch a movie or tv more weeks than not. I agree that games are more involving than movies. As a parent, I ruled out all first person shooter and any …

There is a male IUD tech since the mid 90s. But men don’t want it so it’s not been developed to market. https://www.insider.com/male-contraceptive-is-being-developed-2017-7

I mean 2004 BBC “North and South,” set in England in a mill town, so nothing obvious to do with the American Civil War. It has unions and industrialization as a background, but the main character is the daughter of a clergyman from the rural South of London (fish out of water trope) and the guy is a mill owner. I haven’t seen the tv series in years, but I’m listening the audiobook this week, and I’ve just been impressed with how Margaret, the main character, keeps taking on difficult things, lik…

Oddly, costume dramas based on books like Austen’s Pride and Prejudice or Gaskell’s North and South show a woman making more intelligent decisions about her life and the man she might let become part of her life than RomComs do.

I think those are valid concerns. Younger is not where I’d look to date. But as I’m very happy and married to a man more than five years younger than me, I guess I allow high value exceptions, proven over time. You can always worry about being older; that’s doesn’t go away. You just have to commit to being sane. You know your value.

It’s been a two-year relationship, so normally you probably would break up in person. However, the pandemic has turned it into a long distance relationship where you can not travel to break up in person. Therefore, it is perfectly gracious to break up via phone or video call, whichever you two have been using to be connected. Arrange the call in advance, such as by sending a text that says, “Gaston, I need to have a serious conversation with you. Can I call you tomorrow at 6pm.” (Yes, normally I…

Is there a way you can let phone numbers you don’t recognize go to voicemail?

Deleting the app instead of the account is a great idea. I took the apps off my phone last year and it’s been great! I only check my accounts 5 or 6 times a month, on my desk computer. I’m much less emotionally entangled at that level. When I get into a real time text convo with close family or friends, I ask if they want to talk on the phone. Once or twice a week I do talk on the phone with one of them, I feel much more connected on these healthy relationships that matter to me.

Next time he tells you it’s over and/or calls you names and throws things, take your kids and move out.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
