I am a male elementary school teacher and I will frequently prevent boys from sitting near each other. I volunteer at a children's home/school where I currently live and another one in Mexico (sponsor a kid there). I consider my experiences at these places to be among the most fulfilling I've had in my life so far. There are kids out there that really need someone to just spend some time with them, give them some attention. I've done this as a single guy; it would be a shame if you and your wife didn't follow through with this. I bet you both have a lot to offer.
