While I agree that nice guys should be given grace due to their lack of self-awareness, as we all had to overcome past conditioning at some point, I disagree on the notion that they aren't being manipulative. Sure, they aren't necessarily being malicious, and sure, they may lack self-awareness, but there is no going around it; being nice for the purpose of getting something back in return is the very definition of manipulation.
