Dear Male Lurkers: Not only is plan B not 100%, it's not even well-tested in women over a certain weight/BMI (with limits to both- a woman my height would only need to be technically overweight by BMI to violate the weight limit). Is plan B worth trying if you genuinely need it by accident? Yeah, probably, unless you can't get the money inside the time limit. Is it reliable birth control? No more than a fire extinguisher is a reliable way to keep your dinner from burning.

Nothing quite as revealing as a guy who thinks your standards MUST be on the floor because you touched HIM.

Some people don't give a fuck about anyone or anything if it gets them what they want.

It sucks, yeah. Speaking of learning to spot bullshit... Were your previous relationships bad, fine, awesome? Because if you're comparing a medium guy to total crap he'll seem amazing.

Figuring out WHY he was acting like he was, kind of difficult, but there were loads of LVM tipoffs- -Significant age gap (7 years, I was in my early 20's when we got married and he was nearly 30). -He was much more tech-savvy than I was (MSEE, I had to learn a lot about computers to finally catch him, it led to my career, not all bad). -Drove a fuckboy car that was very unsuited to our climate long past the point a man who was really committed would have traded it in for something safer and more…

I got cheated on while I had his great-grandmother's ring, personally hand-cut and handmade by his great-great grandfather 80 years beforehand. A brand new replica would have been probably $10,000. It's hard to put a value on sentiment but... you'd think that'd matter. Doesn't matter. No solid date, no deposits? Very bad sign. I didn't find out he'd cheated on me til after we got married, don't be me.

Define expensive and have it appraised independently, but... He could really be planning to marry you after graduation, but still be screwing around, and still be testing how much of his bullshit you'll believe. The skirt seems pretty blatant. Cheaters are not HVM no matter how smart, competent, financially secure, etc they are.

It was dark. He had poor footing.

You're only here asking us because you know he's cheating on you. So you say you're "engaged". Is there a wedding date? Deposits? Did you authenticate the ring? Because I'm betting nah, he didn't really invest much into this. You probably have a "shut up" ring, and you don't owe this guy shit. He's making you question his behavior? Ghost his ass.

One change in habits is one change in habits. Dude going back to his peak courtship standards out of nowhere... is a dude courting someone else.

The other main suspicious thing is that he never used to clean his apartment when I visited (I know - LVM male stuff. he works like 90 hr weeks but still. Not cool). But the last two times, since we got engaged, he has cleaned...Does this mean he is hiding his tracks, or that he is stepping up and correcting LVM behavior? His story about the skirt smells like bullshit, so ask yourself- how clean is this apartment? You don't go from living in a dump to living in an even modestly well-organized ho…

You need to get out of there and you need a plan, because he could kill you. Icy and two modes is a much, much, much worse sign than just an angry guy. Breaking up with this kind of man is dangerous. Staying is also dangerous. First things first: make absolutely certain that you cover your tracks while you're doing research and asking for advice and making preparations to leave. You do not want him finding this Reddit account, make sure you don't leave it logged in. Get a new Google account and …

Doubt he would. I'm more concerned about equality of effort.

Pretty much true and I'd never consider a committed relationship with the guy, but I'd consider a FWB arrangement with a good-looking, fun, well-groomed guy even if he wasn't a real relationship prospect. But I'm not necessarily interested in the same things as most of the other posters in this sub- I'm not sure I want to remarry, and I don't want children. I need a lot of space and quiet time even when I really like someone, which means men almost always want to see me more often than I want to…

It's gonna be really hard to find anyone worth a shit while you're still with your husband. HVM in general are not going to be okay with being side-pieces. So the question is what personality flaws you can deal with. It sounds like this guy is wrong for you.

When I was 16, my parents would leave me in sole charge when they went on trips. I'm not saying that was responsible of my parents, but life ticked on more or less normally when they were gone as long as they'd left enough grocery money- and this was WELL before grocery delivery or online shopping really existed. I think you need to start pricing childcare. Your kids aren't super young, if you have a spare bedroom you might be able to get a registered childminder college student to be a responsi…

There will always be another man. There will not always be another top tier funded PhD program. There will not always be another dream job. Part of ageing is watching potential life paths close. Make sure that you're closing the doors you want to close.

Seriously, I can unlock most of my close friends' phones and they can unlock mine. I mean, shit, they have keys to my house. If your boyfriend is guarding his phone he's doing shit he doesn't want you knowing about, full stop. But if he's dumb enough to use the wireless at your place, you can find out if he's using most of the common dating apps or watching weird porn- check your router history.

He seemed nice enough and looked his age but no worse. I know she pursued him- he was pretty shy- and that seemed to work out for her until now. But genetics and bad luck can still win over exercise and diet, and ~50-60 seems to be the age that happens if it's going to happen. They gave her the pictures of his heart and other than the LAD blockage that killed him and the resulting damage, everything looks really good. He saw his GP earlier this month and his bloodwork looked fucking perfect. He …

Oh, really, dude? So that shitty job you had in college means you can only ever make minimum wage? You let McDonald's pay you $6/hr, why can't Intel? Do you like working at McDonald's better? No, of course not, you're worth more investment now and you know your value. Similarly, sure I jumped in bed with my college boyfriend a little faster than I do now. But I was also a gawky-looking mess with the financial and emotional stability of a coke addict in Vegas, and I was honestly pretty terrible a…

Shit, with that kind of age gap, him just being a gross saggy old man while you're still young is the best outcome- I grew up with someone who married a 37 year old man when she was 23. He just had a massive heart attack and she may be a widow at 35- worse, he still thought he's a spring chicken because he thinks of himself as being her age, so he didn't even have a decent life insurance policy. At least they don't have kids and she has a STEM degree.

I know a woman whose now-husband drove to Dallas from Indianapolis to surprise her for Christmas. She was pretty fuckin' surprised. They'd been together about eight months, it wasn't a creepy thing.

Childfree means there's no damn hurry. Lose the weight and get in shape, certainly, but the most important thing to get done is establishing solid financial independence. You can still work the appearance a bit, of course. You said it's only about 15 pounds, that's really not a big deal, you could lose that without even any major lifestyle changes in a year- I bet just using a food scale and tracking honestly would trim 150 calories a day, most people overeat a bit without knowing and you'll pic…

I've always had a little too much self-respect as far as most people are concerned. I divorced my ex-husband in my early 20's, 18 months after our marriage, when he decided that "married" meant he could quit putting any effort into the relationship or his own fucking life. I'd have done it quicker, but I was young, so I did the marriage counseling crap and gave him the benefit of the doubt when he claimed his behavior was due to depression/ignorance. Spoiler: nearly 20 years later, he hasn't fou…

The facial features more common in autistic people are often considered attractive in women- full mouths, wide eyes, etc. Being socially awkward doesn't turn men off if you're pretty, it just makes it hard to enforce boundaries (like rejection or proper protection).
