I would be remiss to not point out that your one study as "proof" was only of ~300 people and is ten years old. Calling it proof of something as overarching a statement as the one you made is... stretching things, a bit.

My argument: Men shouldn't be afraid to call the cops for being abused. Your argument: 25% of abused men get arrested when they call the cops on their abusers. Those are not mutually exclusive arguments.

While I appreciate your in-depth and impassioned response, you're making a different point. I completely agree with you that occasionally and erroneously arresting the victim of a crime instead of the perpetrator is abhorrent, however, the fact still remains that the victims shouldn't ever have to fear calling the cops for help. Better to risk a slight chance of being arrested (all of which can be handled later if there isn't any evidence against you), than to let your abuser go unpunished. Besides, in my (decidedly anecdotal) experience, if you call the cops but they don't do decide to arrest anyone, then you at least start to build up a record of information with them that they can reference if anything goes down in the future. It's hard for that to not work in your favor, unless you're actually guilty yourself.

I'm sure it depends on what type of cops show up, what sort of mood they're in, not to mention many other factors, but unless you're talking about turning around and decking a female abuser in the face or something extreme, you …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
