You missed the entire point of this article: “This line of reasoning, however, is flawed—and potentially dangerous to women’s progress in politics. It’s not that women leaders are doing better. It’s just that strongmen are doing worse.”

Well, yes and no. “Ladies man” can mean different things. If your aim is to cultivate a deep respect for women of all types and be friendly with them that’s a good thing. I think most women love and respect men who are fun and flirty with all types of women- not just the ones he wants to bed. Being a good listener, being genuinely interested in them and what they have to say., being a friend first. All good. Then there’s the sleazy kinda “ladies man” who has this attitude like he’s Gods gift to …

Self-confidence is having trust in one’s self, abilities, and powers. Masculinity is a socially constructed set of attributes, behaviors, and roles associated with boys and men. In other words, society made it up. Dominance, in this instance, is the disposition of an individual to assert control in dealing with others.

I think you may be equating confidence with dominance. Most women like confidence in their partner, but confidence in who they really are. Not putting on a chest beating he-man show. If a man is comfortable in his own skin, content with being who he is, that confidence will shine through.

What is your source for this information? There is a huge difference between a confident person and a dominant and/or very masculine person.

Quite honestly, most women can and do overlook a lot of flaws if the man is self-confident and genuinely likes being around all types of women. When women notice a man who casually (and not creepily) flirts as much with old ladies as women his age, when he wants to engage in conversations with all types of women and isn’t stuck on a “type”, it makes him more attractive. Our fondness for someone makes that person more attractive to us.

“Hey, how ya doing? I’m ______. That’s a cool looking ring, is it turquoise?”

I’d say the first move, instead of focusing on her looks is to make her laugh. Women love guys that can make them laugh. Not a throwaway line that you say to all women, make it personal. If you can’t think of something funny, just be real. Women are not really into pickup lines. They can see those coming from miles away. Much better to make an observation about whatever is going on around you, “That’s a great looking dog, do you have pets?” Notice something about a woman other than her looks, li…
