The data reported by the redditor was false. Their main argument is based on the Facts facts page, whose main report is factually false (see post above), while the other argument is a cheesy personal experience ("9 men out of 10 don't want to use the condom"), which based on easily available research, is also factually false.

For readers who want to inform themselves, here there are the sources @AggressivelyNice_MN reported herself, and commentary (after reading the sources for a considerable time). == Reference Fast facts (summary page): https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/sexualviolence/fastfact.html Underlying research: https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/nisvs/nisvsreportonipv_2022.pdf == Research These are the main numbers reported in the research: aggregated violence is essentially gender-neutral (47.…

I'm thoroughly analyzing the research backing the webpage that u/AggressivelyNice_MN has linked. It's nothing short of an end-to-end disaster (one of the ends being u/AggressivelyNice_MN herself, as disseminator of such information). The numbers are highly misleading, and possibly outright false; the CDC research includes, in the criteria for assessing coercion into Contact Sexual Violence, "being worn down by showed they were unhappy" and similar criteria. I'm drawing extensive conclusions, but…

Here's an actual research on the topic, rather than a cliché: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhsr/nhsr105.pdf. The findings are actually interesting (they approximately match other sources). The usage of condoms is alarmingly low, but what's interesting is that the likeness of usage is not very different between men and women 🤷.

I've checked that web page out of interest, and the data reported is completely unreferenced. Additionally, comparing the numbers with more reliable sources, those numbers are essentially made up. There are more reliable sources, but regardless, it's certainly true that the occurrence of sexual violence is considerably higher than death on a plane. Having said that, slander can't be trivialized as an "oopsie!", as if a man is accused of rape in a public manner, but the accusations are false, his…

Found the other explanation; it's from Revelation: Peacocking is the use of a more stimulating avatar—an attention-getting avatar. It is a way of subjecting yourself to constant social pressure and thereby demonstrating value in that your manner indicates that you are accustomed to the attention. Peacocking amplifies response. A peacocked guy who holds court will look cooler than a normal guy holding court, whereas a peacocked guy sitting by himself will look more like a loser than a normal guy …

First of all, let me preface this by saying that I have the impression that Mystery's ideas on peacocking changed over time (noweadays, he seems to just wear interesting piece rather than a very outlandish outfit). Below there's the dedicated chapter from the Venusian Arts Handbook (mind that it's more than 15 years old). In a subsequent book (can't remember which one, right now), he actually explains why dressing as a clown is not peacocking. Peacocking is the use of attention-getting clothes t…

Mystery has analyzed this with his "peacocking theory"; it fits very well the experiences you've had.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
