....I don’t understand why several people have said this to me. my “numbers” are taken from female friends who have been telling me this stuff since I was 15. the reason I put “about 6” is because I’m certain that many of the female friends I’ve had since high school just didn’t tell me. it is cruel of you to suggest I may be lying. we are talking about rape, a crime that leaves many people with lifelong PTSD. get a fucking grip.

My comment was made after I scrolled through the rest of the comments and saw a bunch of people saying women would never date short men, that she obviously broke up with all those guys because they were ugly, that women are liars, gold-diggers, etc. It was not about him, I had no idea it was even that person arguing with her. I coincidentally chose that comment to reply to.

Yeah, obviously there are women like that here, but I’d say there’s about an equal amount of women who don’t expect a dinner date. (also depends on the context - if you were the one to ask me out, you pay. if I ask you out, i pay)

I have no words. I quite literally refuse to believe that someone could say something so cruel.

No, I’m not giving myself a pat on the back. I’m trying to demonstrate that the generalizations people make of women on this sub are not accurate. We are not some hive mind who are all after money.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/09/20 01:30 AM

Yeah, that’s entirely fair. You do have the right to stay away from women like that, and nobody can blame you. Also, that statistic seems a bit high. I think the one you might be looking for is that 1/5 college women are victims of successful or attempted rape?

Well, okay. I don’t personally like the M&M analogy very much, nor am I scared of All Men(TM), nor do I like the phrase “kill all men,” etc. And I also don’t think all women are innocent angels (I’ve definitely met extremely toxic women.) However, I’ve gotta admit that I am pretty afraid when I walk down the street at night, or am at a party, and I’m usually watching out for strange men who might be creepy. And that’s because I’ve been harassed and stalked (for months might I mention), ~6 of my …

I wasn’t saying that everyone on here was an incel, I was hyperbolically saying that there were a lot in the comments. if you look at the comments, there’s a lot of “women only want money and attractiveness, you’re all shallow,” etc. One of the “tenets” of incel-ism is the negative generalization of all women as only wanting money and physical attractiveness. it’s not a stretch to say that there are incels on this subreddit. I mean, I cannot tell you how many times i’ve had strangers here tell m…

LOL you really attracted every single incel on the sub with that post. For the record, I totally agree with you. I’ve had huge crushes on men that were shorter than me or just generally not conventionally attractive (and for any incel reading this, they rejected me not the other way around), and I’ve definitely dated people not my type. The things I love about my current boyfriend are all personality related. he’s funny, he respects me, he treats me like I’m the love of his life, he’s confident.…

Sure, I’ll answer. You’re generalizing women based on your limited experience with them, and you’re assuming all women are like this, because it’s easier for you to do that than to view us as actual individuals with lives, goals, and most of all, the ability to feel empathy and love towards our fellow human beings. You’re doing this because you’ve probably had a few bad experiences with some women, or because you’ve seen the worst case examples on the internet, and you don’t have any female frie…

Yup. You’re right. I’ve been with my current partner for over a year, and I tell him I love him two or three times a day, and I facetime him often, and I went LD with him knowing it would be a rough 5 years. I did all this because I just want his money and because I’m an attention whore. your argument just comes off as like, “if woman want man....why woman no want ME? i am man??”

I have nothing to say except the video you shared was from the perspective of one man (admittedly one who has a PhD or MD or something similar), who is criticizing a well-respected organization. It is the largest organization of psychologists & psychiatrists in america. The article I cited from them has its own references to research, which I assume you did not read. If you can show me that these articles are not peer reviewed and not from reputable journals, I’ll listen. But the opinion of one …

Yes, women are capable of violence. But you fundamentally misunderstand my argument. Toxic femininity does not endorse violence, it supports repression of anger/violent urges. When women express violence, they are going against toxic femininity, because society expects women to be innocent and nonviolent and to suppress emotion. My argument was never that men are the only ones who are violent. My argument was that hegemonic masculinity idealizes violence.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/09/20 02:36 PM
2

First, let’s talk about violence. While I agree that maybe it’s helpful to be violent if you’re hunting for food, or when defending yourself from someone, it is in general not a good thing. It is especially not a good thing when idealized. The violence that is idealized by hegemonic masculinity is usually that against weaker individuals. It is more often an “i’m asserting my dominance through power” kind of violence than an “i need to defend myself from this bear” kind of violence. I’m just goin…

Ehh. I mean, I agree of course that homophobia and misogyny are bad. But most if not all the other things listed are also bad. Promoting and emphasizing aggressiveness and violence for the sake of proving your manhood, or being forced to repress your emotions, or not being able to get emotional support from your homies is quite likely very damaging. Everyone needs some sort of social circle that allows them to be themselves. I’m of course not saying that all men are like this. It’s much less com…

i think there’s absolutely a difference between liking a song and identifying with it. I like plenty of music - ska punk, classic rock, pop, kpop, jazz....but the songs I identify with are the ones that actually shine a light on my character. I appreciate classical music. (Sorry for the whole-ass dissertation you're about to read here) Ah, okay, you got me. An article in 2014 reporting on data from 2011 is not exactly recent; however, among scientists, I don't think it would normally have been deemed old enough to not be relevant, unless other data contradicted it. I mean, I would argue that r/FemaleDatingStrategy is not a good representation of the female population at all. If you have to have strategies for dating, and you have to get ideas for them from reddit of all places, you’ve probably got some issues. It isn’t a good sample. I would look to r/AskWomen for a more clear representation of women, they have plenty of relationship-type questions.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/20 11:58 AM

The best of any population is not going to be on dating apps, dude. Go find people in real life if you want to talk about meaningful things, and you want people to give you their time. When i was on tinder, many men would open with things like “actually I think it’s hot that you’re bi” or “want a threesome?” but I don’t blame the whole male population for that. Because it’s just a dating app.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/20 11:55 AM
2

Completely agree. Also, it’s not even just low quality women on dating apps. A lot of the time it’s women who are not showing their best side, because it’s a dating app. I used to respond to mostly everything when I was on Tinder but it really took a lot for me to be interested in the conversation once it started, much more than it would IRL where you can see the person face to face. Dating apps are not usually the best place to get meaningful interactions.

I think if it’s an emotional connection you can tell by the way they text the person. In high school, when I was 17, I was stupid and I emotionally cheated on my partner. I didn’t realize it was cheating at the time, because it wasn’t physical. But looking back, if you’d looked at our texts...oh boy. He was telling me I was hot, I’d complain about my then-boyfriend to him and tell him I’d be breaking up with him soon, we’d text each other all day and I’d try to hide those texts from my then-boyf…

Yes, respect for the other person, but also for the relationship. Not cheating is one way of showing one is loyal and values their partner.

An important distinction, I think, should be made between withholding because you are not up to it, and withholding because you want to negatively impact the other person. My (LDR) partner and I sometimes don’t text all day because we got in a spat and are taking a breather. We aren’t getting affection, but we aren’t being manipulated, either. We are just taking a break for a second to reflect and cool down. My mother used to withhold affection from me as a child, if I did something bad. She wou…

Well, I definitely think the things you listed are part of it. But I can’t say it’s not extremely attractive when my boyfriend talks about his research, or when he cooks for me, or when I watch him bench/DL/etc. Those things are part of him too. Would I say I love him because of those things? No, because love is hard to define and in the end is just oxytocin (okay and other neurotransmitters but you know what I mean).

As I said, the girl’s family were paying for all the baby’s stuff. But I do not personally agree with her choice to keep the baby in the first place. In an ideal world, a 15 year old should neither have to be a parent nor have to pay child support. And to more specifically answer your question - I do believe that the government actually does support babies born to minors in some cases, and in other cases it’s legally stated that the baby’s father’s parents pay.

Legally, he is a child. He is not even at the age of consent. Where is he going to get the money to pay child support? I personally think it’s fine to ask him to help raise the kid, and put in time. But the girl clearly did not need help with money. her parents were very involved and much more capable of financially supporting her than a 15 year old who has a shitty part time job at best. Children of any gender should never have to pay child support. Edit: downvotes are for unproductive comments…

I generally think people do not have high enough standards for dating. I see way too many unhappy couples where one person is begging the other for some sort of empathy/sympathy, and the other refuses to give it; where one person wants more out of the relationship and gets angry when their partner doesn’t read their mind; where one person does all the chores; where one person is being mistreated/abused and thinks it is normal. I think this is because a lot of people have a general misunderstandi…

Perhaps they are meeting that standard, but for different people. “Entertaining” is a vague term that people define very differently. My brother is an engineer and finds that very interesting, but it puts me to sleep. Regardless, I think you should keep looking. It’s hard to find the “right” partner, but when you do, it’s very rewarding. Edit: downvotes r for comments that don’t contribute to the conversation, and in any case are against the rules on this sub lmao

Eh, I’m in a blue state and my sex ed skipped everything LGBT, we had a guest speaker who yelled at the girls and basically told us it’s our fault if we get pregnant (“to protect you”), and my teacher said nobody should ever do anal (to be fair she gave decent reasons IIRC). There were two teachers, and one of them was supposedly extremely transphobic. It wasn’t the worst, but there was room for improvement. At least we learned about rape.

This is definitely a subjective answer but differences are definitely more pronounced in peacocks, the Triplewort seadevil, elephant seals, some species of ducks, lions, orangutans.... I think we notice differences more because we are actually human, so we get a lot of time to stare at the other sex and notice the differences. But an alien species may look at us and say well, sure women have boobs and men have more muscle mass, but the height and mass differences don’t seem to be that drastic. “…

I said we aren’t “very” sexually dimorphic. What I meant was that we don’t display the same levels of sexual dimorphism that some other species do. Men don’t have rainbow skin. The argument I was making was that since we show low levels of it, it’s less likely that women would display money-seeking behavior as an evolutionary trait.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/08/20 04:06 PM
2

Sexual dimorphism is the degree to which sexes vary within one species. This is easily observed in, for example, birds: males typically display much brighter colors than females. It’s less obvious in mammals, but one example that sticks out is lions. Males have manes, and females do not. Humans DO show sexual dimorphism, don’t get me wrong. Males are on average larger and stronger as a result of testosterone, and they have adam’s apples, to list off a few examples. and they do not have boobs or …

Plenty of working adults maintain healthy relationships while working full time jobs. and even if only one works a full time job, that still means the couple does not see each other often, because they’re apart for the same amount of time lol

Women up- or down-marrying is not an evolutionary trait at all. First, it takes tens of thousands of years to evolve anything in large mammals like us. One of the quickest examples of evolution i can think of off the top of my head is the slight change in gorilla feet over the last ~10,000 years. (species that reproduce quickly are different) Evolution is a fairly random event, but it also is not something that is always maintained if the evolved specimen happens to reproduce. Natural selection …

Teenagers are hormonal and they are going to be having sex. They’re at the age biologically when they want it more than ever. I’m personally of the opinion that these things would happen much less if sex education in the US were better.

I think things are for sure changing. Men professing love for their friends probably wasn’t as common even a decade ago. Now we have a lot of push towards men being kind to each other. Regarding women and affection - yeah there is obviously going to be variation. I did find a research article that studied this and found women do tend to have more emotionally intimate relationships, and tend to prefer them that way. There’s also a chapter that discusses a variety of evolutionary and social sex di…

The father is 15 years old. He is a child himself. I feel for the mom, it really sucks, but she also made the choice to keep the kid. It’s entirely valid for a 15 year old to try to back out of raising a child. plus, the girl had said herself that her family was committed to helping raise the kid! they had bought her a closet full of baby clothes, all of which matched! so it wasn’t as if she was in a dire situation. To your first part - I think both men and women experience that “will they leave me if i do [x]” in the first part of the relationship. I completely agree. Being with someone like that is probably more damaging in the long run than those long stints of unwanted abstinence. Ah yeah I was being a bit hyperbolic there. I do not kiss any of my friends goodnight. But we do hug and show each other positive physical/emotional contact fairly regularly. My male friends have said they do not receive this kind of thing much at all. Do women not need sex? Oh gosh, have I not needed sex this whole time? Also. Men don’t need sex. They on average (there’s outliers everywhere) have higher sex drives and desire it more. But it is not a biological need for everyone. Emotional support is more necessary than sex. When humans do not get it, the consequences are disastrous. This is why being with a supportive partner that does not induce stress should be the priority over being with one who will put out. Speaking as a psychology rese…

He has a few very close friends, but he says the expectations for how to behave are not the same. i.e. kissing the homies goodnight, while a nice joke that breaks down stereotypes, is not actually realistic yet. My partner has told me this straight up. He does not trust many of his closest male friends with any of his issues. He also does not like that, for lack of a better term, “male culture” discourages emotional support and affection. He says he is most like himself when he is alone or around me. So there is at least one man like this.

There’s a shift in personality no matter whom you’re talking to. You’re going to act differently around your best friend, your coworkers, the boss you hate, the person you love, the female friend, etc. Many psychologists call these personalities “social selves.” They should not change super drastically, but they will change. In fact it’s pretty worrisome if you act the same exact way around your boss as you do your spouse.

Agree. It took over a hundred years of women fighting for their rights, for us to be able to do the same basic adult things that men have always been allowed. During that time, dating conventions were not the main issue at hand, so of course they got less attention. And now they are being pushed back against by many people. Societal changes do not come quickly and we should not expect them to. Part of this might be the fact that there are still a lot of religious (sorry OP for mentioning religio…

something something it takes a village I remember taking a history class where I read basically a book about women’s social lives in the ~1800s and apparently their social circles were very close so many women ended up raising their kids “together”

Oh, that’s for sure. I agree that fathers are an incredibly important part of a child’s life, and so are mothers. But this stance, if paired with a total lack of research on homosexual relationships/marriages, and with a biased report on the dangers of single motherhood, becomes a little sketchy. I mean, what about lesbians? What about single fathers? Nothing is said about these. And yes, pornography can be harmful, but the article I read seemed to dislike it on principle. “The theory that porn …

To add onto this, I think it’s not just a matter of if a woman is “of age.” I personally think that it’s totally fine if a 25 year old is dating a 45 year old. But an 18-19 year old dating a 30+ year old is creepy. The human brain is not fully developed until age 25-27. There are no magical changes that happen after a person’s birthday - those come with years of experience. Also, it’s sometimes worth questioning to me why 30+ year old men only date younger girls. Was the 25 year old too mature f…

I honestly tried to find unbiased sources about IFS, but given they have no wikipedia page (which is a red flag IMO), these are the only other things I could find about them: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Bradford_Wilcox https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/institute-for-family-studies/ Apparently Brad Wilcox is a senior fellow and IFS advertises on one of their pages a video he made for PragerU. Regardless of which political way it is biased, after reading a few articles here and there, I’ve not…

I guess I am just taken aback at the jabs at feminism and the emphasis on not just family life, but marriage specifically. I’m not certain if this source is biased or not, but it is the second one that I have found listing IFS as conservative: https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Institute_for_Family_Studies IFS doesn’t even have a wikipedia page.

I don’t know if you were basing this on research or not but I literally just found an article saying this same exact thing. https://ifstudies.org/blog/sex-in-red-and-blue-america Edit: the link I sent is from a conservatively biased source.

I said this because while I was making generalizations, I wanted to make sure that those reading them wouldn’t assume I was applying them to everyone. Generalizations often do work, we can say that for example most people dislike pain, but everyone has different hobbies and behaviors and cognitive makeup in general. ((But also I’m new to this sub and didn’t know people commonly posted this))

I haven’t seen anyone in these comments really disagree with most of what you’re saying, OP, so I will put my voice out there. First, I want to assert that every single person is incredibly multifaceted. There will always be men and women of all genders and races that do not fall under any of our generalizations. You’ve admitted these generalizations are not based on any kind of research. They are all anecdotal, but I’ll play along for the moment and do research later. if we are talking in anecd…

Noo that is not it. I think partially it’s that many people in general (regardless of gender) don’t understand what it’s like for the person they’re rejecting, and many think that if this were to happen to them, they would continue being friends. (Regardless of what they actually would do!) With women specifically, I think it might also be an issue of misunderstanding the not wanting to be friends, and thinking the guy was just friends with her because he wanted to bone. I personally wouldn’t ha…

Does it though? I’ve literally never heard a woman express that it has ever worked for her. Actually I would like some research on this. I doubt it’s been done, but it would be interesting to get a survey of women who have been catcalled and see which of them liked it and how they responded.

I respectfully disagree, as someone who is both feminist and submissive. Although my definition of feminism differs from yours in that I advocate for human rights in general. Rape fantasies involve loss of control and release of endorphins. Participation in BDSM and rape-play is a total adrenaline rush. More psychologically, those who submit often just enjoy not making decisions for a while, in a world where decision-making is required. Plenty of men and non-feminist women have rape fantasies. T…
