The SPLC is a terrible source. In 36 of the 50 U.S. states, the age of consent is 16. In virtually all states “Romeo & Juliet” laws protect 18-year-olds who sleep with 16-year-olds from charges of statutory rape. Obviously, if she claims that non-consensual sexual activity took place, that’s a separate issue, but, mercifully, that doesn’t appear to be the case, here.
