It's weird because when I was in High School the band scene was predominantly male, but not because of gender bias, but because less women were interested in forming part of a band. Female singers or players were welcomed and often favored because how rare they were.

At the end of the day, don’t be a whiny little baby when your opinions aren’t praised en face or you receive the eye roll. I spend most of my life stumbling in the straight, white male culture I am surrounded by. When you come to my party, attended by my friends, you might stumble too. I've been around "white male culture" (what the fuck is that anyway) as a Mexican and I haven't stumbled, it's not a different "culture" as some white males aren't born into privilege. I was born white, taking aft…

No, again you have a post rife with generalizations and strawmen. I don't agree with everything in the post you're responding to, for instance I don't think we should be close minded, ever, I think we should be discerning. that's it. you talk of ideologues and then proceed to talk in buzzwords "statist", "anti-freedom" and like any true ideologue, ascribe an opinion to "marxism" without any kind of solid foundation. I might venture a guess as to why you did this, but honestly, it's irrelevant.

that's wrong, Farrell didn't attack the protesters and his approach was what brought me into the MRM, and likely others.

If you're downvoted, it's likely that it's because of your sweeping generalizations and lack of depth, most likely has little to do with your profile.

Um...you yourself flat out admitted this to be the case. Actually, I said quite the opposite. Note to feminist: saying "Did not!" is not an argument. For instance, look at this, you're trying to be clever, but you just seem sad, all your assumptions have been incorrect and you're actually trying to shift the focus to me and yet manage to continue trying to pursue the "feminist" line of attack. OOoh, killer logic. I guess we should have found a more recent ILLUSTRATION to use. Jesus. Heh, I was a…

I'm sorry If I don't go into any of the other aspects of the post, but frankly, they seem rather pointless, you seem to believe that simply because I was not a part of the MRM I was somehow unaware of the issues men face in society. let's be plain, none of your assumptions have been correct, and your attempts at building easy strawmen ( troll, feminist shill, etc) have been puzzling to say the least. as to why you continue down this path when it's clearly wrong is rather illustrative, but I digr…

Depends on the nature of the dialog, and the integrity of thosedialoged with. You contending Feminism isn't anti male says you believe if we were just 'nicer' we would win the day. If this is a wrong interpretation, feel free to correct me. I haven't contended any of those things. what I have stated is that my position has changed over the years and recently I have seen more clearly the failure that current feminism is. this isn't any sort of feminism advocacy, and it aligns with the fact that t…

Jesus, your whole point amounts to nothing more than "I know you are but what am I"? No, it amounts to "take a long look in the mirror, you might find it disturbing". And it's not your disagreement with MY views that makes you a feminist shill. It is your virtual indistinguishability from any other Feminist that makes you a feminist shill. It's your advocacy of positions that Feminists have been trying to get us to adopt ever since they realized we were a threat that makes you a shill. You think…

You don't "own" the movement, but you assert people like you started the movement? please, save your intellectual dishonesty for someone who cares. again, calling anyone with an opinion you disagree with a "feminist shill" is the exact same as some aggro feminist decrying "rape culture" or "the patriarchy".

Again, Farrell's rational and empathetic approach to the issues men face today is the reason why I became interested in the MRM. we need more people like him at the forefront of the movement.

No, and people like you are what's currently wrong with the men's right movement. you're the exact same as the radical feminists you decry, and Frankly, you seem to have no idea of what the Men's rights movement actually hopes to achieve when you dismiss it as "nonsense egalitarian crap". this is why it's upsetting to me, coming to these boards and seeing people like you claim to know what the men's rights movement is about, not only that, but claiming monopoly over it. not to mention your knee …

Nah, I'm pretty even handed, I've been neutral for about it, but to be honest back in those days I mostly saw it as a natural backlash to aggro feminism. I could see a lot of issues that I agreed with, but not the movement as a whole, it seemed unnecessary to me, since, like I said I thought Males had the privilege. I've never "hated" the MRM or even feminism, which I consider seriously misguided, but, the protests at the Warren Farrell lecture did give me pause, the labels being used "rape apol…

how can you be sure? and why take the risk? why not refuse to marry until laws are changed? because I don't want to refuse the person in order to refuse the system. you cant compare apples with oranges. first its not legal. you don't have the gov. behind you making sure you are being abused. It's kind of the same, because both have a chance of happening, and there are legal means to set up your marriage so that one never happens. people change. and the line between love and hate is thin. and if …

I used to think that for the most part, males were privileged in our society. that most of the complaints from feminists where correct, but I did see an odd, and cruel imbalance in the way custody or alimony was handled. or, the way society would look down on a husband that chose to be a homemaker while lionizing a woman that chose the same path. and how, certainly some of the claims of disadvantage where just victim mentality at work. it all came to ahead with the protests against Warren Farrell…

Congratulations on your personal approach to Atheism. as the subject of thread states, no schools of thought are monolithic, and approaches are often subjective. you might have not moved to atheism, but I consider it a move in that i'm more than willing to accept new evidence and evolve my thought, I might "move" to another line of thought or philosophy down the line.

I think it's precisely the kind of thing we need to be wary of. any movement is susceptible to being hijacked and Atheism, which is supposed to be rooted in logic was rather easy prey, at the end of the day some people are just looking to belong and any group that offers that option, plus the bonus of a neverendding circlejerk will be super attractive. Atheism plus is a symptom of a greater problem within present day feminism, in which the movement achieves 80% of it's goals but fails to adapt a…

and you have a right to say this, but sadly this is not the case, at least on the internet. not only that, but my relative "experience" in the MRM doesn't mean I was unaware of it's existence, maybe not to the early 90's but certainly to my early days of the internet which are back in the late 90's. interesting to see though, that despite my breadth of experience I see very little substance currently and a lot of pointless anger and outrage. maybe that in itself should give you pause, because we…

I don't think we need to be angry while decrying anger in feminism. I don't think we need to generalize while decrying generalizations. I think we need to be active, logical and positive.

this seems like semantics to me. like I said, In my view, Atheism is becoming homogeneous at present and that's good, the other part of it, slowly creeping into the MRM as well? not as good.

because you don't marry someone with the mentality that they will do that. they can, do that, but that's why you don't marry lightly. the same way a woman can't say "why be in a relationship where a man can abuse me!?" it's about the people and not the institution. plus, common law marriage makes most of this moot.

Modern Atheism has become an ideology, this was a long time coming and a positive thing, the current shift however is not. same thing goes for the MRM.

again, how is this different from the "rape culture" bullshit that the feminists spew? you should get married if YOU want to get married, and you don't you don't. but the problem starts when people convince themselves their personal opinions are the only rational option. I'm married but I don't devalue or discount unmarried couple's commitment or value.

In the same vein, a fruitful relationship between equals can happen with marriage. it's far more ad hominem to say something like... Marriage is a societal stamp that enables a woman to deprive you of your wealth, well-being, and could enable her to murder you and get out scot free (see Pussy Pass). than it is to say otherwise.

My thoughts on this are quite succinct. If his thoughts are so wrong and inconsequential, why devote an article to them? this is why I'll repeat it till someone listens, let's focus on the issues and not on the latest brainfart from some extreme/stupid blogger or writer that gets paid to stir shit up. let's focus on issues and things we can do to make the MRM succeed in it's stated goals.

aren't we assuming in the same vein that some on the other side of the spectrum would? this is a second hand tale, so, the idea is that this woman is essentially useless? let's concede that point then, why not convince the friend to not be with this person at all, way before the marriage proposal even came in to the picture? wouldn't conceding the point speak of character failures within this "successful" man as well? if his life is in such an admirable state, why does he feel the need to be wit…

maybe some in the MRA found this post as misguided and pointlessly resentful as some of the radical feminist posts. It seems that both OP and those upvoting him forget that in an equal world it shouldn't matter who makes how much, and complaining about hypergamy and then advocating it for your own gender is the same kind of double speak that I have come to expect from zealots on either side of the spectrum. the most problematic thing to me, is the speed with which these new labels have sprang up…

I hated the article, it was incredibly self centered. this woman is a survivor of sexual abuse and thus decides it's "never funny", in other words, anything that affected me personally is off the table for comedy. My father died of a heart attack, I was once in a car crash, a relative died of emphysema, I was once mugged at knife point, I dislocated a shoulder once, my car broke down on the freeway. Take note comedians, anything that happened to me or affected me adversely in any way is not funn…

Precisely, always remember that those kinds of people are often in the wrong side of history, people were strongly against gay rights and had all sorts of rationalization tactics to justify their backward stances. the fact that anyone pays attention to either SRS or againstmensrights is beyond me, unless you're looking to get angry on purpose.

I think we should focus less on the fact that he's "needy", "beta" a "white knight" or anything that detracts from the fact that he has a poor argument that he proceeds to present poorly. he hasn't thought it through probably and and flooding his video with negative comments does the perception of the MRM no favors. if someone was to respond with a video with logical, well founded arguments that would be the best way to "set him straight", everything else is a tantrum on both sides.

well, kind of. what I mean is based on what anarchism believes in, that seems compatible with egalitarianism. kind of what has happened to the conservative movement in the US.

why do we care? true anarchists don't feel that way and the internet amplifies people's fake outrage, let them think we're a hate group.

this, times infinity. what the MRM is seeking, in my view is not to have some warring dual factions of ideology constantly at each other's throats like the cold war. we want true equality for men and women, and the last thing we need is to portray ourselves (accidentally) as against women's interests when we are not. let the extremes battle it out, troll each other and get nowhere but into another kind of circle jerk that simply reaffirms what they think about one another, while we dedicate ours…

Exactly, the focus isn't on instantly changing people's minds or having everyone agree with us. it's in the gradual shifting of attitudes that will eventually make this kind of reaction unacceptable, in the same vein as those that once spoke about the inferiority of women. we're on the right side of history here, why even get upset about it? the best thing we can do is live our lives according to our philosophy and affect our families and communities accordingly, we're long past this idea of con…

Why piggypack on a very dumb # trend that feminists started? the men's rights movement should be about looking for equality, real equality. the hashtag as used by new wave feminists was not about what the men's rights movement is. do we want a new wave MRM? I don't, it would be following the exact same path that new wave feminism took and it has worked for their detriment. I would suggest abstention from this.

why has rational wiki not locked or edited the article? the horse porn reference alone warrants it. I also searched the feminism article and no rational opposition is mentioned in "backlash". it's odd, yet evident of why the MRM needs to exist.

Worse still, as if there were no other concerns for the equality of men and women other than radical feminists. this if of course, darkly ironic, as feminists in the past were dismissed using the same tactics as some are trying to use in order to dismiss the men's rights movement.

That was a really dishonest take by both the Anchor and the female guest. while Rudov is needlessly in your face about his views, the problem is that he then falls into the same trap of personal attacks and digs at gender, it makes for entertainment for some, but really not that enlightening in the end. again, it seems weird to me that the moment that the female guest affirms that women are more "spiritual" that should set off alarms to any objective observer.

I think I that Warren Farrell made a good point that's relative to this in an interview once. He said that he noticed that the female audience that once cheered and respected him turned somewhat hostile when the analysis turned on them. Maybe this author feels conflicted and still wants to seem utterly on the "side" of women. It's still an important step, though a fumbling one.

I agree, which makes the claim that the commercial "objectifies" women all the stranger.

If we can discuss the appearance of the female robots, then, can we assume that the appearance of the male is important as well? is the fact that he is not good looking, seems awkward and nerdy an implicit message that abuse of this type of male is permitted or encouraged? the very basic problem with the analysis of these commercials is that it seems to only go into the deep end on the portrayal of women and glosses over the portrayal of the man.

I was just about to post this, though not in the context of the article you linked to, but rather to this one. and I found it most ironic, because the author seems to believe that even in that ad, in which a man gets attacked by a robot ( but a female robot) is still "objectifying women", nevermind the abuse that the man receives, that's all for laughs. but of course the hypocrisy that is displayed here is most evident when she moves on to criticize the ad for Audi, in which a teenager kisses th…
