Thanks for the book recommendations. I'm working very hard on ending self repression. The challenge of it is to find my authentic self. The irony of it is that as you say, repression leads to acting out in other external ways - alcohol and sex addiction included. Over a long enough time scale, those misdirected addictions and the personality they shape can actually "feel" like a self. Stripping away those layers to find what's underneath is very disorienting. I'm hopeful though.

I was referring to the size of practice, not money, and the reason I want to do that is: Build a business that can fulfill me and my employees. Hopefully more of them over time. With larger business comes opportunity to work on cases of greater significance: policy based cases with broader impact on groups of people. This would be more intellectually fulfilling but requires higher profile to get the work. With larger business, hope is that we can redirect some funds into endowment for public int…

Small law practice focused on high value litigation, and also run investment portfolio with partner. Goal is to double it within five years.

No. She reengaged yesterday but after thinking about the comments I received yesterday I realized I am not ready for this at all. I was using this whole situation as an ego boost without actually having the toolbox to be mindful or successful. I need to put in more work.

I know. I meant that your question made me realize that I am currently only wearing the costume of the lifestyle I want to reach instead of dedicating myself to difficult choices. I appreciate the direct comments because I don't think I even have my eyes open enough to see my deflection for what it is. I started reading here because I had reached point where a lot of things in life could be considered "good enough." Good enough income, good enough business success, good enough fitness, good enou…

Yeah - you're a fucking newbie. Absolutely. Validation seeking behavior. I agree. I believe that to overcome validation seeking, I need to put myself in spots where I would fall into that trap to recognize it in myself, and then course correct. When she flakes on you - you gonna make a post about how you cried and were torn up? No, spent much of this week practicing text game with her. When she threw a shit test demanding I stay up late texting her instead of getting to bed for 5AM lift session,…

Thanks. I believe my opsec is good. Plate lives 45 mins away. I did not and will not give my full name, phone number, or any other real contact information. Phone and text or through Google voice and Kik, which are turned off and deleted from my phone when I arrive home. All cash planned and already have prepaid debit card not linked to any accounts. I essentially created an entire different online persona for plates, all of which is accessed only through my encrypted laptop and incognito browsi…

Thanks. I read your comments about your own situation yesterday. I believe I am taking this slowly, with purpose, and mindfully, but I certainly would appreciate any warnings you might have about my own blind spots that I might be missing.

Something about the nice guy persona I used to occupy never let me experience anything in a genuine manner. I never really felt gratitude, for example....rather I felt like I should be feeling gratitude, and so I forced myself to act as such. The fact that I am able to experience it all so authentically now - it was great. Congrats, man, on both the award and your new view on things. This resonates with me a great deal. I spent so many years trying not to offend people and trying to act "appropr…

Turns out I've not been intimidated only by beautiful women most of my life -- I've been the same with confident-looking guys as well. It turns out that overcoming this, by approaching and conversing, is kind of taking the edge off of that, and letting me feel more like I'm "one of the guys," or even "one of the confident guys." Glad to hear this is working for you. I'm using the same "forced approach" rule for myself with both men and women to overcome a 40 year fear of approaching people for f…

OYS Week 4; RP Week 6 General Comments I'm relatively new here, and I'm self-aware enough to know that it would appear ridiculous to veterans for a newbie to announce after just a few weeks that he's figured everything out. I won't do that. BUT, I do want to say thank you to all the people who worked so hard to put this forum together, all the writers who have pondered difficult topics and wrote great books to guide men. I spent 40.5 years of my life walking around worrying about what people thi…

A very simplified explanation is that low rep high weight will build strength. Low weight high volume builds muscular endurance. Medium weight in the 8-12 rep range will build muscle size.

I backed off the heavy bench press and have been doing pure volume. 75 bench reps on Sunday. First 50 @ 135, last 25 @ 95. That's a lot of volume. Nice job pushing through that.

As I get heavier I tend to shift my hips side to side in some odd corkscrew pattern and that is obviously horrible for my back. This is most likely due to smaller stabilizer muscles (QLs, adductors, gluteus medius, etc.) not being ready for that load. Your quads and glutes can handle it but with the extra load those smaller muscles are being taxed. I had the same problem, and fixed it by deloading almost 100 pounds, and then starting over with squat form, going almost ass to heels. The process o…

Thanks. Just seems riskier than anonymous environments. I guess I need to shift to frame of confidence and openness and just engage. Then see what happens. I can think of 10 moms I would bed if the opportunity presented itself. The error is assuming that just because they look proper and put together that everything is alright in their bedrooms.

If you haven't done moms-of-school-kids game, I recommend it. This is my dream game to run. Target rich environment. I get gun-shy because (1) women are not their most relaxed during mornings dropping off little kids at kindergarten; (2) i'm a known married commodity; (3) they're known married commodities in a very open environment. I suppose the upside is that there is tons of plausible deniability here. How do you make it work, /u/aechzen?

OYS Week 3 General Comments One of the things that confused me when I first started reading the sidebar material was the repeated reference to expecting a period of confusion. At the time, I was so excited about the prospect of what MRP could deliver that I didn't really understand. Three weeks in, and for as much positive development MRP has brought me in a short time, I did experience a greater degree of confusion than before. Similar to not knowing what to do with myself in a world of fewer m…

Suggestions of where? I know it's tough without knowing my style, but I'm 6 ft, 178 pounds. Biggest challenge I have is an 11 inch drop 42 chest and 31 waist. I typically dress Ivy/trad - Brooks Brothers, RL, etc. but I know that my frame looks better in well tailored British style suits. i am thinking MTM is a good idea but would love any suggestions.

Your goal setting is a great idea. I'd recommend reading the first two sections of Ray Dalio's Principles to help reach these goals. After goal setting, he recommends really thinking about what problems might keep you from reaching those goals, and identifying the root causes of those problems. He just released it in hardcover, but you can find a free PDF here.

Keep fixing things and working with my hands. It helps me to not get stuck into my head. This helps me a lot, too. It makes your time productive, shit gets done, and improving the environment around you makes you feel better to be there (at least it does for me).

(You probably could have taken things further with that woman; finger fucking her under the blanket would have been fun. Yeah, crossed my mind but my wife was to her left. I'll work up to that. Between the nofap and new realization of targets everywhere, I'm walking around with a half hard-on all the time. Circular, though, because that creates more positive drive. Thanks for the thoughts and the kind words.
