Never post here but super interested in your reading of the book. I thought he was mainly trying to address the dominant philosophical maxim of the time which is life is pointless (in a cosmic sense) therefore life is needless suffering by saying that while things may be pointless in a cosmic sense you can at least enjoy it and the presupposed idea that pointless activities are by definition suffering isn't true. I am a brainlet though so I may be missing a lot of it.

I've had this exact thing without moving job. People don't give a shit how busy you are, just if you deliver for them. Killing yourself on too many things gets you nowhere.

Would they really be unemployable after that? Seems like you'd pick up a lot of strategy/leadership/emotional control/organsation skills from that. Certainly enough to be a mid level office chode?

Just to chime in here: I gave up coffee due to having quite bad anxiety symptoms. After 3 weeks they weren't gone but were massively reduced. I would reccomend.

Real talk dude, he does. I'm a reasonably good looking guy, but I don't lift for shit due to injuries and laziness. I have a chodey job in consulting sitting at a desk all day. I drink more than I should, I eat crappy food. Basically I'm not rich or ripped. I wear hipster clothes. Trainers and skinny jeans and all that shit. I'm no adonis and I'm no bill gates. I've got a hot lawyer girlfriend who like bringing other people to bed, 2 fuck buddies and outside of them I get laid fairly regularly f…

Wow. That must be tough. Its very much the opposite here. People who marry before 28 say would be seen as backwards and kinda lame. Do you think that plays a lot into the AF/BB mindset and a lot of the behaviours we see here?

Yeah, especially if she is paying for it. I live with other guys and the house is expensive but the decor is absolutely shit because nobody is going to give up successive weekends to make it look nice.

Do people actually dream about that? I think this might be a cultural (american) thing, I live in London and exactly none of my friends are looking forward to getting married and having kids. People put it off until they are like 35 and even then only do it because they are exhausted by the party lifestyle or because of some kind of existential need to produce thta they can't put off any more because of biological reasons. Nobody dreams of living in a shit suburb and commuting to work and having…

Oh, I've no doubt in your case. I'd trust another person's judgement. I just steer clear of hard and fast rules myself.

I agree with this. Although I wouldn't dump her. I'd just really calmly ask her what was up and why she wasn't interested in having sex. Could be she was waiting for the third date and then went on the rag or she missed her trip to the waxers or anything really.

I mean considering the only people who watch his show are women and the unemployed, he's just catering to his audience.

NAC Hey buddy! As an avid drinker, what is this? I've been googling and I'm assuming you mean: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1018-n-acetyl%20cysteine.aspx?activeingredientid=1018&activeingredientname=n-acetyl%20cysteine ? What's the skinny on this? Does it actually work?

Could I get a source on the Pinker quote? Not doubting its veracity, just looking to read more by him!

It's a reply to an equally ludicrous and unsubstantiated list. I thought it captured the tone well and gave a similar mix of arguably good points and idiotic personal experiences.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
