He should insist on the payout and then ACTUALLY DONATE it to where she said she would. Oh my god that would be amazing.

That's not true at all. There are different 'waves' of feminism, but as a gen-xer, all feminism means to me, a woman, is equality of the sexes. That's it.

But most of the places women go when this happens ARE homeless shelters - not some magical "abuse" shelters. I wish they DID have those! I've been abused myself, and much later had a boyfriend who was in an abusive marriage (which I helped him get out of). There wasn't any support for EITHER of us. It sucked. I am AGREEING with everyone that it seems to me that there is a real gap for fathers fleeing with children.

What on earth is wrong with you? I said there were homeless shelters for men - this is true. I said I didn't KNOW if they took children - this is true. Both battered men and women who escape from abusive partners might end up in shelters - this is true. What on earth is your point? Truth is there are poor services, in the US, for most folks (even when there is funding - it's often poorly managed and applied). The needs are great and they are everywhere. What's your issue?
/r/MensRights27/05/18 03:14 AM

Homeless men's shelters. Yes, and specifically for men. But I have no idea if there were places for men with children.
/r/MensRights26/05/18 11:54 PM

Not enough. There aren't enough for everyone, that's for sure. Every town I have lived in had a shelter specifically for men. But what if you're a man with kids? Not sure I ever saw a kid in those lines.

That's a really callous and inaccurate statement. How many are full? How many exist in rural areas? How many are safe? etc.

This thread is a pathetic example and your post is exactly what I'm talking about. I'm AGREEING with the content of these issues and you call me a child and I get hate mail. Yeah, right. The women haters here, like you, are ruining what could be a key resource for men caught in custody crises. But keep complaining and whining. Because that really helps. Or you could own your shit and actually try to fix things.

I paid a ton of money. But also the whole point of my post is that I AGREED that gender bias is at the heart of this (did you read it?). And I had to be the bigger person, by far, to make things best for the kid. Life isn't fair. But time with your own kid is about the most precious thing there is. My divorce wasn't fair to me. But I got 50/50 custody and that's what I wanted more than anything.
/r/MensRights26/03/18 03:34 AM

Or, get divorced. But, you know, actually give a shit about the kid! I think states pushing mediation are a big help. Divorce doesn't need to be expensive. You know who wants it that way? Lawyers. It's an industry. I helped an ex leave his abusive spouse. I saw him be treated extremely unfairly, but he refused to stand up for himself, at all. He had bigger problems, it turns out. And yes, she was a purple haired fetlife "teach classes on poly" type of asshole. I witnessed the abuse. She is proba…

"Well, feminists are subhuman garbage, and the cause of a lot of problems in society. They are rightfully bitched about." Just one of the more colorful replies. How very useful. People who want equal rights are subhuman garbage?! (You'd call similar comments those of triggered snowflakes.) If you want meaningful change, you need to stop this bullshit. YOU ALL are giving your own sub a bad name.

I think there is a natural correlation between those parents seeking anything BUT equal custody and bad parents (except in the rare cases where one parent really is a total disaster - and if so, that shit better be documented.) Good parents WANT their kid to have both of them in their life and realize the divorce is about them, not about their kids. I think that's one of the core issues here. They are more likely to use a mediator, too. Thus, if one parent is trying to say that the other is unsa…

Woman here - I had to pay for the lawyer to get divorced, get us both equal custody, and I lost a ton of money. It does happen the other way around on the money side. I think there are clearly still biases on the custody side, and I think men need to figure out how to be proactive to protect their rights in that area. I see so many guys putting their heads in the sand when marriages aren't going well, not admitting it, not willing to go to counselling... well, that's when you should be pragmatic…

Look at the comments. How much is useful information for legal resources, and ways current fathers can protect themselves, vs bitching about "third wave feminazis"?! You'll never get anywhere with that bullshit. MRA DOES bitch about women, ALL THE TIME. Fathers need equal custody rights. Stop being immature assholes and start pushing for real resources to actually help fathers. I'd be all about helping with that. Of course not. But you can get off your ass and try. As a woman in probably the most male-centric field there is, who has seen my peers leave because they were treated like /shit/, there is a real problem here. If you're not /like/ someone, it's very easy for them to overlook you when putting something like this together. That natural tendency really needs to be overcome. And I have sat my way through plenty of SHIT presentations/content/speakers because someone was a friend of a friend and, let…

It's not fair or ethical to not even TRY to consider it when putting panels together, though. You end up having lazy bro-culture where like promotes like - only. A natural human trait. I agree about the quality of speakers. And maybe it's a hard thing to try and get those high quality diverse speakers to add to your non diverse speakers. it is worth a freaking try. I agree that REQUIRING "false" diversity isn't helpful, at all. I do think that requiring someone to at least TRY to go outside their existing networks is useful. Sometimes finding us isn't the easiest thing, but when I had a guy once ask me - truly befuddled- about how he could possibly find a woman to speak in a panel that I would have been perfect for, I roll my eyes. We're so invisible when guys are thinking of who to ask, and that "invisibility" is a really subtle thing. I've put panels tog…

They are NOT gender biased anymore in the US - but they are biased against the working parent. The fact that there is a gender imbalance in the parent who usually works vs not is a different issue. Look at the laws.
/r/PussyPassDenied28/11/17 02:08 AM

Not in the US. The laws in most states are gender neutral now. The problem is that since the women have the babies and breastfeed them, they are usually the ones that take a career break, it's hard to justify paying so much for daycare when you might make enough to just break even.. and all that adds up to really hurting your career. This comes from many issues, but the main one is the biological difference. This is why consistent, enforceable maternity AND paternity leave that is reasonable hel…

Bullshit. I am a woman who was raked over the coals in a divorce. It's an insurance policy for the non working spouse. Gender has fuck all to do with it and I'm fucking sick of hearing that. I got fleeced because he's too lazy to look for a job after getting laid off (we both were, but I tried harder). And there is a kid. The laws are not gender biased.

How is it wrong? How about, you take the kid and give her zero, or take the kid and ask her for child support. See how hard it is to raise a kid on your own. You're paying for how it was made - this is a risk you take when you have intercourse. The kid didn't ask for any of this, and that's who the money is for. Or you could go 50/50. It's YOUR decision not to be in the kid's life, which is why you are paying so much support. So you did have a choice.

I hope people read this and realize they shouldn't have unprotected sex - especially in cases like this. It does all sound quite fair in this case. Could have been worse. I feel really bad for the kid.

That is exactly what it is. Biology. Risk. Want your risk to be zero? Don't have sexual activities where the woman could get pregnant. Where the hell is the acceptance of responsibility in this sub?!

/r/MensRights06/05/17 03:42 PM

That is true. How many guys try to get custody of an unwanted pregnancy baby? You have a whole forum on here trying to evade just the financial consequences, never mind the mental /emotional ones (to both father and baby). I'd be very interested to see cases where this did happen.

Child support is for the child. The kid didn't ask for a condom to break. Don't want kids? Don't have intercourse or get a vasectomy that is post tested... And bug the hell of of your congresspeople for vasagel to become legal. If you have sex you are sharing in the risk of having a baby. You chose that, right there.

FGM is illegal (and different in scope). Male circumcision is not illegal, so I don't think that there is a legal argument here to be enraged about what happened. I am very against any kind of circumcision, and certainly believe male circumcision should be illegal. It's almost unbelievable to me how difficult this issue has been to make progress on. It's because everyone in comedy does material that is duplicative of others', often not consciously, as there are a lot of smart folks doing it, and humans tend to have similar experiences. Amy gets destroyed for it (and I don't like her comedy, fwiw), but Burr, who I love, does it just as much and no one is putting up videos of him doing it. No, it's advantageous to the non working spouse. (It's just that more women are the non working spouse). Custody, on the other hand, still has a way to come, but also has dramatically improved in many states. People forget how much state law can vary.

Oh, the next people he raped were a mother and her 8 year old child. They ended up leaving the country (she was a grad student at the school studying). Yeah, I'm sure there was consent /there/. I think there is more of an argument about what should be called rape vs what SOL there should be for rape.
/r/MensRights18/09/16 07:47 PM

You don't understand SOL. It's not if it was reported (she reported it that very day, immediately, after, when she ran bleeding and crying to the student health center). It's the amount of time they have to find the asshole. Looks like SOL has changed in NY since then. Thank GOD. BTW the info I got here was all from the state police.

That is utterly, utterly not true. Why are you all just thinking of cases where it is "he said, she said"?! There are violent rape cases that leave plenty of evidence that are close to murder. I think you're all really blind due to what makes the news - and forgetting about these cases.
/r/MensRights14/09/16 06:52 PM

DNA. Photos. Knife marks. Teeth marks. There is a TON of evidence for a lot of rape cases. Not all rape is "date rape" or "he said, she said". There ARE ABSOLUTELY provable, prosecuitable rape cases farther out than two years. If there is fucking CAMERA EVIDENCE, doesn't matter - if they can't find the guy in two years, doesn't matter.

The statue of limitations on rape is insane. TWO YEARS in NY. Arson? No statute. There was a serial rapist where I went to undergrad who, the MONTH after two years, went out and violently raped another woman jogging through the woods at knifepoint again. Every two years + one month. (The college had everyone on the track team jogging on the path - and they never disclosed what happened.) It should be gender neutral, but labeled and proctored as a quiet-only study area, including not propositioning other students. I completely understand the need for space where you're not bugged, and it is absolutely true that there is unequal gender unwanted pressure to being pestered in these situations. Separating genders isnt legal. Having a quiet only study area is, and men who prefer that atmosphere to study deserve it too.

Hate to break it to you... but you can have kids without getting married. I'm no fan of marriage. I also think, if people really want to do it, they should work on a prenup together - mostly to make sure they are communicating about what the expectations are and what they are each gaining and giving up. EDIT: perhaps the most gender equitable country on earth is Iceland. And there, they also I think have the highest percentage of childbearing couples who are NOT married. Marriage is getting more…

I think the biggest problem here stems from: "“After much internal debate we ultimately decided not to push her any farther, in order to protect her mental health, and honor her bravery for coming forward.” They ASSUMED she was telling the truth because of her gender. Honestly I totally agree with you. I just hate when a broad brush is used; this is an issue that hits everyone. It is true that it's seen more with women being at home - but in part that really is a function of women bearing the biological burden of having children. This is the stupidest statement I've ever seen. Seriously. Women have been clamoring for male birth control, and the lack of progress in that area is seen as misogynistic - women were expected to bear the brunt of responsibility and side effects (and cost). Just like men who won't even consider vasectomy but have no problem having their partners get the much more invasive and risky tubal ligations. It's the opposite of feminism. Bullshit.

Yes, this. A COUPLE needs to decide on BC together. If they are done having kids, they need to come to a consensus on what to do. Vasectomies are vastly cheaper and safer than tubal ligations. Some women can't use hormonal BC especially when they get older (side effects esp clotting/heart problems get much more frequent), and not everyone can use an IUD, either (and they have complications too). Outside of condoms, the burden of BC has been totally on the woman up to the end of childbearing. Thi…

You can get a maternal blood DNA test throughout most of the pregnancy. You don't need to wait for birth.

Respectfully disagree. I have seen this from the other way around, and the feelings were the same. He wouldn't (couldn't?) have sex with her because she was turning into a horrible unpleasant jerkface. She tries to shame/complain him into doing it anyway (aka like the spreadsheet), she gets seen as the horrible manipulating selfish asshole she was - immediately with no pity. If anything, in this recent spreadsheet example, I think the man is getting a pass and sympathy that "his wife cut him off…

I don't see this as a gender issue. Whoever makes a spreadsheet like that comes across as a petulant asshole who is basically trying to ensure they never get laid again, no matter if it is the man or woman. Ugh, oh ugh. This makes me think of the argument: "our marriage broke up because the (wife) wouldn't sleep with the (husband)" when, really, the (wife) stopped sleeping with the (husband) because (he) was an unhelpful, mean, selfish baby jerk, and cemented the deal by complaining about sex. T…

... that got REMOVED??? I'm a feminist, I've gotten in arguments on the MRA board here. And I'm really horrified that would get removed. What, is the feminist discussion so FRAGILE it can't handle an opinion like that? Really?? Not cool.

It makes me so sad that so many people on here use such inflammatory language. Sure there are some nutcases out there. But in what universe does feminist (i.e. women should have equal rights to men) equate to NAZI? Stop listening to AM radio, perhaps, and educate yourself about where the feminist movement came from, and what it was like to be a woman back then. People like you make me worry for MRA - you are equivalent to that "nazi-feminist" you see on the other side. It's just really sad. It's…

I want us all to fight for ALL rights. THIS. Hatred towards "feminists"- you know what that sounds like? It sounds exactly like the people you claim you hate. There isn't any need for that. How about we stick to facts, information, rational ways in which we can make a difference, support for those who are going through hell due to gender inequalities, etc. I find those way on one side- female OR male - generally have a hard time admitting the other side has anything negative they have to face du…

What on earth could she do to put your dad in jail? Is there stuff you don't know about here? Arguing against child support doesn't throw you in jail. Maybe calm down and talk to his lawyer. He needs a good one, and if he doesn't have one, needs to upgrade pronto. I think Divorce is one of the places where men's right suffer the most. The reason for it is ironic- in the 50's and before, women were destroyed by divorce. But the law went way in the other direction, and now assumes women are stay-a…

You were date raped. I mean, you don't think unprotected sex without consent is ok? You could have gotten STDs, gotten her pregnant, etc. The ability to make those choices was taken away from you. Bad situation.

THIS is what a lot of people don't understand, and it's behind the "how can a woman rape a guy?" question. You described it very well. The issue of force is different: there could be blunt force, or mental force, or blackmail, or... list goes on and on. As some others have said, these involuntary bodily reactions can happen for women too, and also for children when they are abused. Understanding how your body can "betray" you during the most horrifying time of your life is crucial for healing fr…

The only thing that bothers me about any of this is the use of the word "feminist" like it is something bad. I'm a feminist. I think men and women are equal. Thus, i also support men's rights and see many places where men are treated poorly vs. women (see: DIVORCE). I'm a woman, I'm a feminist, and I support men's rights. Saying that being male has several benefits over being female is true; it does not negate that there are several areas in which they suffer negative inequalities. These two phi…

It creeps me out that multiple links you've put there are showing up purple since I had previously sent them to my bf, who was in an abusive marriage when we met. It DOES happen, had happened to him for years, he still struggles w.r.t. realizing it. He had no help - zero - and had to pay out the ass to get divorced (no kids). It was ridiculous.
