Seriously though, this analogy does nothing for me. It's an analogy. It's not meant to be literal.

Great post. Thanks. I understand that at least half of MRA's fall on the right wing side of the political spectrum. But I don't downvote posts that criticize "lefties." Because they deserve said criticism. Right wingers are a bunch of fucking snowflakes. They refuse to allow debate on this issue.

No. But there are individual men who speak out about men's issues. Eg Dave Foley from Canada got the world's worst divorce settlement. And Russell Crowe claims (rightly) that "God" made baby boys perfect as they are; they don't need surgery on their genitals. The general problem here is that rich men can get by. We all recoil in horror when some skank demands millions of dollars in alimony, but George Clooney or whomever can afford it. Rich men are the sponsors of feminism. That's worth keeping …

That's cute! but not as cute as Ashley Judd's tits. I would like to see a world where men can be men, and Ashley Judd's tits can be Ashley Jud's tits.

Corporations that care about maximizing profit, maximise workplace safety. Those two ideas are antithetical.

Also it should be stressed that Karen Straughan aka u/girlwriteswhat is a far right wing Trump supporter. More than that, she has previously praised Milton Friedman. If you support Trump and torture that's your soul, but most of us don't and that means Karen is dancing on Chilean thin ice. Edit: remember that Karen has "borrowed" ALL of her material from luminaries like Warren Farrell and Steve Pinker.

You keep asking me for a "solution." I'm not so arrogant as to have one. I think there are certain principles which would help the cause of human freedom -- decentralization, federation, volunteerism, mutual aid, etc. But those are merely ideas. Perhaps some would work well, perhaps others wouldn't.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 06:02 AM
2

So? What does that have to do with anything? My understanding is Friedman advised Pinochet on the best way to improve the economy It didn't work. What did work is that a whoooole lot of innocent people were tortured to death. If you're okay with that in the name of market efficiency, I weep for you. But it wasn't even efficient. And yes of course Friedman knew what was going on. Human Rights orgs published monthly reports on the extreme torture and abuse that people were suffering under Pinochet…

If you think Elam's statement sucking on Donald's cock is a good thing for the MRM you are delusional. It's time for Elam to go garden or play with his dogs or something.

I loathe communism and the Soviet system. It's arguably even worse than unfettered corporate capitalism. The anarchist Bakunin predicted this in the time of Marx. He stated that if you put a "revolutionary" in power he would soon become "worse than the Tsar himself." I do think there are solutions that involve neither tyrannical system. For example mutualism is anti-capitalist but also stresses individual rights. And even mixed economies are arguably superior, since there is a certain balance. F…

Well she's an admitted fan of Milton Friedman, who advocated stripping workers of all their rights and placing control completely in the hands of corporations. So there's that.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:43 AM
1

I'm a libertarian in the sense of the original meaning. The word libertarian was first used by a French anarchist. They opposed both centralized state power and centralized corporate power. A third way? There are thousands of ways that human beings could organize themselves other than capitalist/communist.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:41 AM
1

Well if you want to see "free market capitalism" in action go look at the "private" towns of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the US. You couldn't fart without a corporation's say so. Not much different than maximum state control.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:39 AM
2

What are you faulting Warren Farrell on? Evo-psyche is true I'm not. Just pointing out that Karen "borrowed" her ideas from the aforementioned figures. I have no problem with that. I DO have a problem with her extremist far right wing views.

Elam was doing quite well until his "I kiss Donald Trump's butthole" video. It's too late now. He's gotta go.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:37 AM

Something other than centralized power. Power corrupts. You act like there are two modes of living: state control or corporate control. That's silly. There is no natural law mandating that human beings be controlled by either.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:22 AM
1

Um no. Germany is an example of a mixed economy that functions relatively well. In contrast to the basket case economies of "free market capitalism." That doesn't mean I think Germany is a bastion of freedom.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:20 AM
1

Your solution is the state I never said that.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:15 AM
1

The state has helped to mitigate corporate brutality -- but ironically corporations could not exist without states -- and states can become at least as brutal. I oppose both. But you don't have to be an anarchist to recognize the absurdity of allowing corporations (whose sole purpose is to maximize profit) to "do as though wilt." For example Germany has very strong unions and corporate regulation but also maintains civil liberties and has a high standard of living.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:13 AM

If you had been aware of the nonsense, then Trump wouldn't be even registering to you. All I did was point out that Trump is a douche bag. Like most politicians before him. shocked as you are I never claimed to be "shocked." Shocked that Elam would claim that Trump is the best thing since sliced bread, yes, but not shocked at Trump's antics. They were all too predictable. I'm happy you are as outraged as you are. You should be. This sort of lame condescension doesn't move the conversation forwar…

I have no idea what the solution is. What I do know is that we've already tried the "let corporations decide" and "destroy unions" method back in the late 19th century. The result was little different than serfdom or Stalinism. Every aspect of a man's life was controlled by the local corporation.
/r/MensRights03/07/17 05:03 AM

As opposed to what, exactly? As opposed to any entity that doesn't place profit above workplace safety. Corporations are mandated by law to maximize profit on behalf of their shareholders. Karen praised Milton Friedman on HB radio -- the father of neoliberalism. Friedman advocated stripping workers of all rights and deregulating every aspect of the economy. His theories were put into effect under the dictator Augustus Pinochet in Chile, combined with the mass torture (and slaughter) of working p…

Isn't there? You are seeing, probably for the first time, just how horrible our "Political Process" is. lol I've never had any faith in the American "political process". It's been garbage from the get-go. If there was actual "democracy" in the US then Shay's Rebellion would be celebrated along with the anti-Federalists. This isn't to say there aren't far worse political systems. Of course there are. Don't make unfounded assumptions about people you're talking with online. Better to ask them firs…

Straughan advances a far right wing narrative that will get working men killed in massive numbers. Doesn't matter to her since she will never have to work those dangerous jobs. The far right has a sterling record of reducing workplace safety for men.

The only way to stop this train is for men to start accusing women of rape, en masse. I certainly hope that's not the only solution, since men are never going to do that. Men have out-group bias toward women and are much more compassionate toward women than even their own sex. The same is not true in reverse.

Holy shit. I had no idea this horrific bill also codified "Affirmative Consent" into law. Since no one uses "affirmative consent" in real life, that means every single sexual encounter in Canada is now an act of rape. This makes the most extreme sexual prohibitions by religious fundamentalists look tame by comparison. Every Canadian man is now a de facto rapist. Edit: THIS BILL HAS NOT YET PASSED. It is still theoretically possible to block it. Edit 2: this post should have a few thousand upvote…

I did. Good for her for raising those issues. You can understand my irritation though when the first thing out of her mouth is (to paraphrase) "of course I agree with feminists about the wage gap". I just turned it off after that. Is most of the exchange about feminism? 'Cause if it is and Thunderfoot rebuts her I might give it a look.

Feminism ruined the left. 100 years ago there was a more or less equal focus on male and female suffering by socialists and anarchists. If anything, slightly more attention was paid to men since they did most of the dying in the workplace. Then second wave feminism came along and it's been gynocentrism and man-hating ever since. Perhaps it's not a coincidence that the Rockefellers and Fords pumped so much money in gender studies courses. It sucks to be someone who identifies with traditional lef…

I listened to a few minutes and bailed. Ana was blabbering about "reproductive rights" (only for women, naturally) and "equal pay" (it already exists, honey). At least she acknowledged that second wave feminism contained virulently anti-male strands which now largely define the movement.

Most feminists do not support legalizing prostitution. They support the Nordic model, which was recently introduced in Canada. It criminalize the buyer but only the buyer (sort of like if we legalized drugs -- but only for drug dealers). This is in opposition to Amnesty International and sex workers themselves, who claim the Nordic model simply drives them underground and makes their lives more dangerous. In Canada the Nordic model was passed into law via an unholy alliance between feminists and…

It's a shame you're being downvoted for what seems to me to be a very important topic. This is one of the very few legitimate critiques of the MRM raised by feminists. It's all fine and well to talk about male homelessness and workplace fatalities and male deaths in war, but if you support right wing policies (Pro war, opposition to unions, opposition to workplace safety regulations, cutting social services for the homeless etc) then you are in effect exploiting disadvantaged men for rhetorical …
