Seems like both sides are being dicks. The male's family is taking advantage of their position and asking for an exorbitant dowry (though I don't see why this is illegal; it wouldn't be in the US, anyways). So, of course, the female's family responds by hiring criminals to kidnap the groom and brutalize him for several days. This is one of those situations where your first reaction is to be happy that you don't live in such a fucked up place.

The father may be in violation of the divorce ruling. Child support payments are frequently added on top of other expenses that are expected to be paid as needed.
