Bro walking up to a woman with no warning and asking for her number is so fucking weird. You would be putting yourself instantly into a low value status, as it becomes obvious that it doesnt matter to you if she is normal, psycho, or whatever as long as she likes you. It comes off as desperate and nonsensical according to social norms. A hvm has a plethora of options so it would make sense for him to get to know someone before he chooses to persue her.

You have to show dominance in some way. Subtle signs you are not a push over or that youd be willing to protect her. Make sure you are challenging her on her ideas at times during convo that you are passionate about your own interests regardless of what others think, and that you can assert yourself in social situations.

It depends if by being direct you mean act like a fuckin weirdo. You have to remember congruencey. A big romantic gesture professing your love if you dont even really know that person is going to seem disengenuous. But saying she looks nice today or complimenting her dress telling her shes funny, fun, etc, if you truly feel that way, is fine.
