I had hoped that since he published this article, that maybe somewhere out there was the rest of his study. Without results, all we have is his word that this happened. Are you sure it's talking about Paul D. Tinari, and not Paul Tinari? The other is the "author" of this paper. One of the sources published in this thread links to an article with a picture of the wrong guy on it. Depending on how you count, you can trace mandatory military service exclusive to men in that region back to the Viking age, and you can find examples of it in every century since.
