My primary reason is that there have been 170 death row exonerations. You have a criminal justice system that is inherently flawed in that it's run by humans...and innocent people get convicted. The death penalty is a permanent punishment...there's no going back. IMHO, if one innocent person is put to death it's an invalid punishment.
