Thank you. It's very validating hearing this from someone else. What you've described is exactly why I've decided to step back right now. My focus is what is best for my son now - and as things currently are it's not for his father & I to be together. I'm concerned that his own father passed these issues onto him, and I don't want the cycle to continue.

Oh I didn't take it that way. Thank you for the suggestions!

I have tried to be a shoulder for him to lean on, I have tried giving him his space and offering an ear to vent to when he is ready. I have tried to create a calm environment where he feels that he can trust me but I don't know if that's how he actually felt. I also feel that therapy is really the only option left and have decided to seek out a couple's therapist and begin going by myself and continue to encourage him to join. I don't think he fully understands how important communication is. I'…

Thank you. I will look for one in the area. I'm not religious personally but I am certainly not opposed to the idea as I've suggested it to him before. If anything, maybe it will bring me some clarity even if he doesn't join.

I have strongly encouraged him to see a personal therapist & have expressed that I would like to go to a couple's therapist. He says he feels very uncomfortable speaking to "strangers" about his problems and is convinced that it won't help. He went to one session after his suicidal episode and he said it was pointless & unhelpful. This is the problem that I keep running into with him. He seems unwilling to help himself either because he is just that far gone or he just won't step outside his com…

It is interesting that you say this. He is currently in college and he feels that once he establishes a career he will feel much happier. With everything I've ever learned, I couldn't understand how that would make sense. But after reading some posts on this forum I'm beginning to understand.

Wow... I can't believe I didn't see that coming out of my own mouth. You're absolutely right. It's easy to look at them now & idolize them as the ideal relationship but I don't know what it took to get there - or if it's really as happy as it seems. All 3 of their children turned out very much the same.

Yes, I've suggested this as an explanation for why he is unhappy with us since he can't seem to figure it out. He says it's possible but he doesn't know. So I don't know what to do with that information, which is largely the reason why I've stepped back. I'm 7 months pregnant. I strongly considered an abortion when I found out - and despite all of this I am still glad that I chose not to. This little boy has given me strength that I didn't even know I had. It's sad & unfortunate that I had to be…

Thank you for your reply. I am currently browsing in the app which isn't so easy to navigate. I'm definitely intrigued by this approach to relationships as I've never really seen anything like it before. Need to do more reading for sure. As for the abbreviations BD = baby daddy, BM was referencing my BD's brother's baby mama. Complex lol. Sorry for the confusion. To be honest, it doesn't really feel like we've broken up. Neither of us have any interest in seeing other people. I, too, hope that h…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
