I realized at some point I was only attracting men and women I wasn't interested in because of the way I acted around people I was interested in. I usually just go with Hey ___! What's up? or How was your weekend? If she wants to respond, she'll respond. I see no difference in response rates if I put thought into the opener. Plus the whole thing is a numbers game so the more time you spend thinking of an opener, the less you send out, and the less chance you have of meeting anyone. Also, never get emotionally attacked to any of them before meeting. Don't let yourself think you screwed up or let one get away. That isn't what happened.

Unless you're ok with ruining another man's life, I wouldn't game her at all. Assuming their relationship is somewhat happy, you could seduce her and she does something she ends up regretting deeply, which will make your friendship weird and possibly end it. Why the large age range? A 23-year old should be making much more than a 17-year old. When you're 17, you don't have many options. But by 23, you should be able to find a decent paying job even without a degree. If you are 23 and making minimum wage or close to it, look for a new job. Anything that pays better. Don't get emotionally invested in any one girl too early and realize that it is a numbers game, especially at first. Most of the time, she will reject you. Your right-swipes will rarely match. Most of your matches will not respond. Most of the ensuing conversations will lead nowhere. She might not want a second date. Etc., etc., etc. Just take it in stride and move on.
