I’d like to point out that the defeatist mentality can end up developing into hatred and extremism, even if a movement gains traction. It’s very difficult to combat as I myself feel that defeatism a lot but it takes a lot of introspection and a positive outlook to keep one’s self in check. I’ve noticed that nearly every movement follows a sort of pattern of extremism after it gains a foothold and it’s a slippery slope that applies to everyone and even situations that aren’t inherently political.…

I also want to be as fair as possible when it comes to approaching information. Being well rounded and even minded is important to me in understanding issues so seeing additional discussion on this would be helpful. I do not want to demonize women or make anyone look bad nor do I want to portray men as perpetual victims. I simply want to understand difficult issues.

How do you all stay hopeful or motivated? I’ve wanted to ask this but I feel like this would be a good place to do so. Everywhere I look, there’s this harsh and unfair point of view people express regarding men in general and I’ve gotten so sick of hearing it. I recently finished reading the myth of male power and while I don’t really understand his reasoning for some point of views, he still brings up a lot of issues that have clearly gotten much worse since the 90s when the book was written. I…

I’m glad you posted this, and I’m glad that there are people out there that see the same hypocrisy I do, but things like this just make me feel much more depressed than I usually feel. It’s a never-ending uphill battle and to me, it seriously feels like it can’t and won’t ever get better. I just want to understand the world and be more fair toward everyone but the constant opposition from those around me, including my family, just make me want to make another ‘attempt’. Sorry for the dramatics b…

Honestly, it feels pointless to me every day. I have no skill with arguing at all so I just end up submitting to people and whatever they want me to do. I’m absolutely fed up with that but I don’t know how to change it. Been spiraling into a huge depression for years but talking about the truth of the world doesn’t exactly help me. Is there anything that helps any of you?

Thank you for your posts. I often feel so alone on this issue and I want to be a fair and even minded person. I typically feel like the bad-guy in even trying to defend men so in turn, I’ve been struggling with quite a bit of depression (putting that lightly) from this topic because of that feeling that I’m constantly in the wrong or that I’m “a bad person” for going against the grain. My family is quite bent on feminism so I can’t even feel safe to express these points. Anyway, my point is that…

I don’t think it’s the black and white kind of situation. Marriage entirely depends on how an individual or social group sees it. The stereotypical 1950s “nuclear family” easily comes to mind for people but based on what I’ve seen, marriage goes any way the people involved want it to go and differs greatly from the stereotype people have in their minds. I can see how it makes men healthier and happier. Another aspect that goes into it are expectations. For example, my brother in law does everyth…

I understand the desire to make strong female characters but I entirely agree. They really don’t need to make them act so hostile towards the male characters though (nor make them slightly different versions of male characters). All it does is make them incredibly boring and cringe inducing In my opinion. One recent example I noticed was when I tried out black ops Cold War and sometimes when the operator Powers kills a male enemy, she says “Male target eliminated, no big loss”. :(

I struggle with this immensely. I mean, I want to guide my life through kindness towards others and fairness through solid data but it gets increasingly difficult since I don’t see that effort being reciprocated. I can honestly say that I try to respect women and give them as much freedom of choice when it comes to dating but all I usually get is either being ghosted or the whole “I respect you so much but…” speech. At it goes on I just end up feeling deeply unsatisfied and completely defeated. …

Back in high school, I had a few male friends that were supportive and also told me how good looking I am. During that same time, a few girls told me how ugly they think I am and spread rumors about me with the popular kids. Way more than that happened during that time but needless to say, I ended up with permanent confidence issues from the bullying I got through those years :/ I always thought it was nice to hear a woman taking actual interest in game stuff or playing cod, etc. gaming has alwa…

The thing is, I can understand where they are coming from with those types of arguments but it’s an idea that’s taken too far in my opinion. The history and culture part of the course was fascinating to me though. I really enjoy learning more about how things work in other parts of the world. Might I ask where you are from? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to :)

Yeah I already have this thing submitted but I’m actually quite a bit worried I might get a bad grade on it.

They had a list of other example games I could talk about. From what I remember, they had Call of duty, Uncharted, Far cry, Metal gear, Grand theft auto, Fortnite, And I think they put overwatch in there too. I thought it was funny at first but then it just got me frustrated.

Thank you for sharing that! I’ve found it can be a bit challenging to find sources that support the argument against those kinds of things. I mean, practically nobody decries the killing of hundreds and hundreds of men in action games. But get up in arms when the player is able to punch a suffragette or kill a prostitute. I just think people need to calm down and learn not to be so offended by everything.

Yeah getting John marston’s name wrong was the first red flag while reading it haha. They had a list of games to talk about as well and the only 1st person ones on there were call of duty and far cry. I immediately thought of Bonnie, Abigail, and Luisa when I read it. None of them are weak at all and I ended up really liking all of them. Heck, Luisa helps lead a revolution in the story!

I’m in Utah. For the most part, my classes have been pretty decent in sharing and accepting other points of view. However, there was an Asian American culture class I took where we were taught that it’s impossible to be racist against white people/sexist against men because they were the oppressors. Being one of the three white guys in that class it was pretty uncomfortable to say the least. It’s weird though because I still thought the professor for that class was a great guy.

Bringing up gta is essentially the lowest hanging fruit when it comes to discussing the issue of misogyny. For me, the freedom to do something bad in a game doesn’t mean that the worth of the product rests entirely on that one possibility or that the game encourages that action.

Yeah I mentioned that on my paper. Bonnie and Abigail are both very strong female characters and help propel the story further so I don’t see how they thought all women were weak or nagging in the game.

Because I’m planning on advocating for the male perspective which is completely contrary to the idea they are currently pushing. Catching these problems as they arise and analyzing it gives more evidence toward men’s rights.

For my communications and media class, there were a few options for us in terms of which topic to write about for our mid-term paper. The other topics were pretty generic (such as music preferences through decades, film as high culture, internet usage, etc) but I felt like I should write on this specific prompt because of the misinformation and direct correlation between masculinity and misogyny. Even from the title, you can see that they have already made up their mind about the subject. In the…

My sister literally told me that “all men are potential rapists” to both me and her husband and that it’s just a matter of “changing their mindset while they’re young.”

I’ve got a similar feeling. My family generally has well thought out and sound arguments but I made the mistake of discussing the information I’ve found here (as well as the red pill documentary) with my older brother. There’s no way my family would accept this line of thinking and realize how bad men have things. I feel like I’m the villain and an awful person for believing it. From what I’ve been seeing in the comments, volunteering for anything good you can find may help. I’ll try and do the …

I totally agree! I never really cared for that term either. Too much negativity associated with it.

I’m turning 27 in June and I’m still a virgin. I really want to be with someone and show them how much love and care I can give but nobody I’ve been interested in has reciprocated. I guess that makes me an incel, which I obviously don’t want to be. It’s hard not to care about it but the loneliness is simply excruciating. Not trying to score pity points but that’s just my situation.

Thank you for this! :) my family has a pretty bad self deprecation habit so that’s something I really do struggle with. I don’t respect myself because I don’t feel like I deserve it. This support, recognition, empathy, and respect is exactly what men need from women.

Thank you so much for the viewpoint you have. I’ve been browsing this subreddit because of some issues in my own life and I wanted to find some answers much like you are. I’m very grateful I saw this post. I wish more people would understand that things aren’t easy either way. Both men and women face a lot of challenges but in a variety of ways. Socially, people understand that women contribute a lot of good in the world. I just wish people would openly realize the good that men have brought tow…
