It's just the authors speculate that women perceive that to be the case. It would be mind-boggling if women had more money than men in the US considering how much more likely they are to be in poverty. Of the top 20 richest people in the world, one is a woman from the US, and most of them are men from the US. Women only actually have about 40% of the wealth (or 32% for single women), which means men have about 60%. It's not fair that some people die of a heart attack at 30, but that doesn't make it illogical. Women have the right to choose because the pregnancy is in their body.
