To be fair in my case disciplined strength training has helped with a lot of mental issues, including self-respect and standing up for myself in many kinds of situations (holding frame). IMO there's a very good point why it's emphasized so much. I think it has a lot to do with the male biology. Roughly generalizing I think many men need to be strong physically to take proper control of their lives. Especially depressed ones.
