I was super nervous about the ring fitting since we ordered it online 😩 so that filled my mind haha

I feel like my relationship began in earnest after the proposal. It wasn’t really a huge thing though because we had discussed it previously, and I had picked out the ring haha. I think if you and your partner are on the same page already then nothing could really go wrong!

This is just my two cents based on very little information. A man who is “used to being chased,” calls his ex wife crazy, and picks up women 12 years younger online seems like probably not a great catch in the long term for me. However, I haven’t met him so what do I know. I’m guessing it was the “I’m into open relationships” but then denying him sex that probably did it. I can’t see the average male computing those two bits of information without being seriously butt hurt.

My husband and I lived together for about a year before getting engaged. He grew up in the UK where it’s normal to live together as an unmarried couple (he has a cousin who is buying a house with a boyfriend?!), so for him it was expected. It worked for us because he owned his apartment and we were able to bring in rental income and set ground rules for how our life would work together.

Honestly, I had nothing but one-sided, toxic relationships until I met my fiancé at 28. I wish I would have left those other guys and been clear (with myself and others) about what I really wanted much sooner. I’m super sorry this has happened, and I completely know how it feels. If he isn’t willing to work together on the relationship tho, I’d say walk away for sure. I’m always here to chat feel free to DM me. I don’t have many friends either :)

So I actually had a very similar issue recently (you can read my post in my history if you want) and while I don’t have kids, I was definitely feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work I do and also trying to be a traditional feminine partner. I checked in with my partner and told him that I dream of a traditional relationship but that I quite frankly CANNOT do that while also paying the majority portion of the bills. And I asked him what he wants: feminine wife or bread winner because I can’t…

Yeah... I have tried so much on this. I actually reached out today to several couples counselors so that hopefully we can get some support discussing this and other topics.

Thank you for this comment. I definitely think a soul searching conversation is in order

I don’t believe I have ever belittled him, but I can’t speak for how he feels of course. I think it’s obvious that I’m a bit suspicious that my success in and of itself may be the cause of some of his resentment.

I think what I was feeling the most when I wrote this post was this: I very deeply want a RP marriage, but I won’t diminish myself to achieve that. And I guess I’m wondering if that’s possible.

I agree, so I guess I’m asking how do I help him get there or do I need to step down from my role if I’m truly RPW?

I do want to have kids, so I agree maybe it’s time to step down a few years early and focus on my home life.

I’ve tried but he’s so busy in his role at his company that it’s really hard for him to make time to work on things related to my business. I do dream of eventually buying him out, but that’ll take a lot more than I’m earning right now so it’s a far off goal

Absolutely

I think I definitely could be more feminine in the home. I struggle because I am, essentially, working two jobs right now. I plan on quitting my primary teaching job at the end of the next school year and focusing only on my online business. I, of course, hope to be more feminine and homely at that time

I think there’s a high possibility that he is right and I will definitely need to find a way to rethink my own position in the relationship. I do need to be more submissive and humble but it’s very hard for me when I feel like I have my hands on something that could be very good for both of us, long term. I want to maximize that but the sacrifices to the relationship may prove, in the end, to be too great.

Mine responded, “because you're fun to be around, have your shit together, work hard, we're compatible in ways that we enjoy spending time, you're sexy and you show me love and loyalty”

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
