Yeah I see what you mean, I think though with the amount of tax dodging companies, and thousands and thousands of pounds spent on finding 'the perfect strawberry' (in the UK this is) I do think it's a bit unfair. 1	Maybe someone here would be willing to explain this without immediately dismissing me. See this I totally agree with. I don't think as many people as you do would be able to afford it, but i agree it definatly shouldn't be peoples first choice. Personally, as I said I could afford to raise a child but not at the expense of the time off my girlfriend would have to take. I see your point, but my partner and I work the only jobs that are available, could afford to raise a child without handouts, just not to take a hit of a few months on our earnings. So we shouldn't have a kid, because of that few months? I live In the uk so laws might be different, but the hit on the taxpayer is pennies. Yeah I understand that, as I said, but my point is you could put yourself in the same situation by making a choice, and people are more than happy for you to be paid out. I think it's a ridiculous statement that you should be unpaid for six months to have a child when hardly anyone could afford to do that. Did your mother have six months unpaid? 0	Maybe someone here would be willing to explain this without immediately dismissing me. Its not a free ride, we all pay taxes, we all pay for everyone else, we all cover when someone has a child. What percentage of the worlds population do you genuinely think could afford to take six months unpaid off work, after having a baby? I don't think I know anyone who could afford that. I think if you have to live off handouts then yeah, you're not ready to have kids but maternity leave is a different matter. So my girlfriend and I should be denied the chance to have a family because we don't earn enough to be unpaid for 6 months? Say you went skiing and broke both your legs, would you agree that you shouldn't be paid for the time your off work? After all if you can't afford it you shouldn't take the risk or skiing?
