You know what? No. I have a lot more to do than prove myself to you. Have fun, whatever that looks like to you. I am done.

It's those fringe feminists who give the rest of us a bad name. I should ignore them and their existence? No. I should acknowledge them for the bad actors they are, because no, feminists aren't all like them. Why should I blame everything solely on men? Like it or not, women have ways of being awful, too. If we pretend otherwise, we are being disingenuous at best.

Also, there's this. https://www.quora.com/Why-do-some-feminists-say-women-cant-rape

You know, this late at night, I can't. I guess I've just inferred that because male rape isn't talked about as often by the groups I referred to, especially if they came out of the second wave. Or, well. At all. Outside the context of prisoners and children. So find me somewhere that a radical feminist decided men who were not prisoners and not children mattered, when it came to rape, and you'll convince me.

How do you cope? You show yourself a little grace. I'm pretty sure we've all had fantasies we would not act out. Mine are not violent and not against any laws, but still not something I'd actually do IRL, and people would be justified in cutting me out of their lives for doing it. You are human, and you are trying. You said so. That's good enough for this woman.

So, clearly we have had different experiences, and that's okay!

Have you seen some of the radfems out there? The TERFs, the SWERFs? About the only feminists I'd trust to actually care about men being assaulted are intersectional, because I've heard specifically that it's about everyone having more rights, not just women.

There are some. There are probably also dudebros on Twitter. Both/and is a valid option here!

Oh, okay. Still, she should not have done that. [mumbles unkind things about the kind of feminist who thinks men can't be assaulted or worse]

Is there a social aspect to it that they think they have enough friends that will buy into their shitty pyramid scheme and their downline will make them rich? This one, with a splash of gullible and a smidgen frickin' stupid. Okay, more than a smidgen.

Nothing crypto about my values. I love Jesus. I love his words. The Bible's not infallible and there's a lot of cultural context people ignore in order to use the Bible against other human beings. Pretty sure God would be appalled at that use. in b4 your inevitable sardonic "lol". You're the Cool Girl who doesn't give a shit, I get you.

This is the part where I apologize for thinking you were a man in another post. Foot firmly in mouth. I think you top-level answered a question I was reading as "for men"? Anyway, my bad.

So to me, the value is to make and raise well-adjusted children. That is a giant factor for me, minus the "make". "Obtain", rather, but definitely "raise". I would rather present myself as part of a couple who can't just split up on a whim when it comes time to chat with the caseworker at the adoption agency or OCFS. Also, for my security, I want the paperwork. I want some form of agreement in place that, if we're going to build a life together, ending that will involve major effort. There will …

[clutches chest] My God. The day has come. I agree with Jordan Peterson about something. I never have believed too strongly in Myers-Briggs typing, given how easily I can change my result on the test (actually, I'm not sure I can score the same way twice). But I used to be pretty down on small talk until I realized that was pretentious AF and not going to help me make friends. Nerds and nerdettes, we have to come off our high horses.

It looks like you're right about RP [edit] women refusing to raise children that are not their blood, if replies so far are anything to go by. I'll be over here in blurple pill territory happily looking for a mate who will do right by "the least of these" and "suffer the little children" to come unto him.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/19 11:24 PM

Maybe some of us have learned that chosen family can be just as valid as blood family -- even more so. I have sisters my parents never birthed. One sister's children are still my niece and nephew, our family's only present heirs. And since biological motherhood isn't an option for me anyway, why should I not choose someone who needs family and be that family? What do I lose by it?

Just as above, I am inclined to listen to men saying what they think is masculine. Masculinity isn't defined as things women think are the truth, either.

If your wife is throwing things at you with the intent to harm, don't placate her, stand the fuck UP to her. If that means saying "I'm removing myself from this situation, you can decide whether I'm coming back with cops" then so be it. I knew a guy who could not do this. He put up with a ton.

His sexual tastes were far more kinky than mine... to the point where Bad Dynamics developed. I have learned it is possible for two people to love each other, but one to abuse the other. In case certain people are wondering, that's why I can't do duty sex. Because my abusive dynamic exploited that. He also couldn't manage his polyamory. Aaaaah, oh, if you could've seen me at my deepest in my depression. Even now, I still would rather have a nice weekend in than out. On the topic of cleanliness: I prefer it to be more or less consistent, so I don't think I could cope with Mr. One Deep Clean. It's not fashionable to be a feminist who thinks this way, so of course you're not going to see a blue-leaning woman admit that! Someone will revoke their feminist card.

...no. Had this problem, did everything we could to get me as close as possible, annnnnd it worked exactly once, when we weren't trying. Did not help that our anatomy was like trying to shove a missile into the barrel of a Beretta, though! It's possible to be mismatched that way.

More of my Grandma Mavis in me than is healthy, a honey of an anxiety disorder, and social teeth that really want repairing but this insurance is pretty bad. [edit] Okay, so how's it holding me back? Er... Grandma Mavis was a bitch. And that's being kind. She was abusive, she was crass, and I'm not sure she was all there. In terms of the anxiety disorder, driving more than three minutes is not happening. The tooth thing should be fairly obvious.

You're right. I'd no more go for someone unattractive who nevertheless was a nice guy than I would someone totally attractive who wasn't. So... there's no real choice to be made, for me you have to be some of both. Walking stereotypes of either are equally a turnoff. Bleh.

What they say in the exam room boils down to "Honey, we just don't trust you not to go back on your word. What if you find the right maaaan?" Implying that a woman should go back on her decision to bear children because a man asks her to? How ridiculous. She should have the courage of her convictions.

Women get boundaries? Then I'm drawing mine around something that'll only leave me remembering what was apparently my own sexual assault. So no, I wouldn't marry a man who didn't respect my boundaries to begin with.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/09/19 09:15 PM
1

Because not all men respect boundaries. They wheedle and whine and complain that we've aroused them or just that they can't deal with their morning wood, and "no" becomes "will you give me the blankets back if I consent, it's cold in here" or even "will you stop sitting on me".

Did you want to? Did you actually want to, or were you doing it to get him to let you go back to sleep/go to the toilet/do anything but have his penis in your face, mouth, hands, and/or vagina? Because he's going to have so much more fun with me sobbing as I attempt to perform an act that is rape to me but not to him. Knowing there is no provision in the law for this, no less. Go back to my parents and say "Yep, this failed, I'll make my family the priority, I don't need a partner who's going to degrade me and literally get off on it." If you don't trust each other enough to disclose everything and go over the bank statements together, have one common account into which both of you pay, and separate discretionary funds. Common account covers family expenses, discretionary funds are for the hookers and blow.

That's a hell of a nit to pick. I have to fight against being tragically honest. How I long to go up to some people and tell them where the bear really does its business in the woods. But manners are good for everyone, so I do try to use them. If you'd rather I didn't, that's cool, I can dispense with manners around you.

Now that is a truly unique take I've seen on the situation. I've always seen them touted as part of a men's rights movement! Okay, so that helps my understanding somewhat. Culture dynamics have gone sour. I agree there. I don't like the way men, women, and variations thereon interact. Not sure what to do about it except try to be better than the people I feel are screwing things up.

Is that really the only context that matters to you? If it is: never. Thank God. But it shouldn't be the only context that matters. Using another person is bad no matter which gender does it. You have your bad actors. So do we. I'm willing to face up to feminism's bad actors and condemn them as such. Are you willing to do the same for the men who misrepresent you?

Right, so men's rights groups don't advocate for men to treat women either as madonnas or whores. Men's rights groups don't tell men they should/can be getting lots of sex, but the women they get it from are worthless sluts. Which is totally why n-count doesn't matter.

Not picking fights, but when I'm asked for my opinion, giving one that is more accurate while still being tactful. I do value the ability of people with diverse opinions to interact and live together in society... it just doesn't feel like that value is shared by very many people. Feminism is actually pro-sex work. Sex work is work. And I don't disagree with that stance. If you want to hang out your shingle, or join a reputable shop, why not? It's certainly a life path that comes with -- let us say different expectations, but "not for me" doesn't mean "not for any woman".
/r/PurplePillDebate14/09/19 05:19 PM

Since when does casual dating require us to open our legs -- and ourselves to a host of nasty possibilities? Chad will leave regardless of getting what he wants, so why are we letting him leave with the smug satisfaction of having racked up one more P&D?
/r/PurplePillDebate14/09/19 05:04 PM
2

Good question. [blink] I'm sorry. I think where I'm quibbling is that I read you as saying women are replacing actual dating with casual sex -- I'm trying to say we can do better than that, because who wants to be a plate well into her thirties? But I may be misreading you very badly. I apologize.

When I was jaded and traumatized from my own experiences -- not being pumped and dumped, but six years of something that left me suicidal -- I stopped chasing partners. I knew I couldn't be a good partner so I dropped out and healed. Why is this logic not more prevalent among people our age (27-33)? What is so bad about abstinence for a short period of healing and adjustment? Are you all just terrible at masturbation?
/r/PurplePillDebate14/09/19 01:47 PM

So, you're somehow fine with being lumped in with the worst of your group?

I find that truly sad. Feminism at its core shouldn't be "men are evil, women are superior". It should be, as I'm certain you've heard before, "the radical notion that women are people". And by that logic, just as deserving, not more deserving, than anyone else of rights.

If I had to name it? Probably Proverbs 31 feminism, striving to be the woman of valor (who did many and varied and good things). Feminism that doesn't devalue men -- remember, her husband's name is still well-renowned in the city! -- but emphasizes that a woman is still valid and still equal. Is it a recognized form? Maybe not yet, but Christian feminists certainly are plentiful, so I suppose I fit in under that umbrella. I think the second wave especially can go screw itself. That's where you g…

It is at that. Then again, maybe some women find "Your partner's really hot" to be a threat. I don't, but some women might.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/09/19 03:25 AM
11

You wouldn't like it if I said the exploitation of women was inherent to all men's rights groups, would you? I know it isn't, you know it isn't, but that's the popular perception. Feminists are just as divergent as men's rights advocates. I am asking you to extend us the same grace you want extended to you. Nothing more.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/09/19 03:23 AM

That honestly depends on which wave of feminism, which subset, etc. Just like MRAs, TRP, inc*ls, etc. are all different, there are various ways to be feminist. If we get to learn about which flavor you subscribe to, you get to learn about which flavor we subscribe to. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Hah, I'll admit it, I got a kick out of my female friends finding my ex attractive. I smirked on the inside. I'm not sorry.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. By his forties, he's probably been married already if he's the kind of guy I tend to go for: steady, comfortable in himself, has oldish-fashioned values. If he hasn't, then surely there was a reason -- so it would depend on the reason for his inexperience. After all, there's not as much of a stigma around men having high n-counts as women. Why hasn't he felt free to exercise his privilege?

Not everyone jumps straight to wanting to play God and selectively breed humans as we do animals. So, I'm half-German. Not 23andMe German, my-granddad-was-sent-to-the-Eastern-Front German. Because of that heritage, I am very, very cautious about how we acknowledge the role of genetics. I'm not going to swagger into a room certain that Nature is Where It's At, Yo. I'm going to quietly keep treating everyone as if they have a right to aspire to better than they've had, because I am a firm believer…

Eugenics was always more than killing the poor, though. In Sanger's day it was about preventing the "unfit" from breeding, and I'm ashamed to say that in the US, we were sterilizing "unfit" women without their consent well past WWII. Jobs that are basically the foundation of society need to be made respectable again. You are not a bad person because you are a fruit picker/garbage collector/janitor. This is hard work but it is work we need done, and it is honest work that should be honored as suc…

That's not an argument for eugenics, it's just basically the point of this thread Actually, that is an argument for eugenics. If one is not careful to regard Idiocracy as satire, one inevitably falls into the trap of deciding that it's inborn traits, not a slew of environmental ones, making us more prone to terrible decisions by the year.

Nurture has some say in what happens next. I am not a eugenicist, thank you.

Count: 2. Indeed waiting is beneficial to me. It isn't a set time but factors that need to be in place: love, trust, and possibly commitment. Probably commitment. Not waiting was stupid both times, and I hope I learn from my mistakes. So you're not wrong about one woman.

Unfortunately, my family history means I've done too much thinking about the subject. I am also sensitive about it, so I apologize if I have offended. I truly did not mean to.

population controls, eugenics, genetic engineering This was already a spectacularly bad idea in history. Can we not with repeating those mistakes?

Neither, and both. The second wave of feminism has a lot to answer for. What it basically said was, "In order to become equal to men, we have to start being like men." At least, from here, that's what it adds up to. I know of women who resist wearing skirts like they've been conditioned against it; women are encouraged into traditionally masculine fields without a whole lot of the other way 'round (modeling, curiously, being the exception); nobody actually respects a homemaker. Those women decid…

I think you've hit on something that's been bothering me about gender lately. "Sure, be whatever gender you want, but really we want you all to be men" is what I see reinforced.

Does that mean only women can consent to sex? No. God, no. It tends more to mean that when we're being pursued, we can choose to say no, thanks. Obviously we can still be raped -- anyone can -- but if a future partner decides that a rape is a valid part of a woman's N-count, he needs help. It's more that we can choose to ride a certain carousel, or we can be more choosy about who we sleep with and why.

Accepting that age happens to all of us is something more women should bear in mind. Not because we all need to guard against it, because we need to learn how to work with it and age gracefully. Who wants to be hot the way a 20something is hot at age 30something? That's just a sad look on her.

my first thought is that these women could simply look for an older guy who is already established/successful and ready for marriage. That makes sense to me too. I was raised around older men, I knew how to deal with them. The bad relationship I had with an older man was not due to his age, it was due to his polyamory and piss-poor handling thereof. (And now I know it's monogamy or bust.) Also, he maybe had an unhealthy fascination with porn that leaked into our lives. Meanwhile, the guys my age…

and that is something people should be clear eyed about So you give them the information -- "Hey, so heads-up, you may end up a youngish widow" -- and then you trust them to know how they feel about it. That's the part I think is missing in a lot of well-meant advice.

P2) Younger women are the biggest threat to middle-aged women I don't see younger women as a credible threat. I think of them as having something different to offer, since there's a bit of a generation gap (33 to early 20s is a jump from Millennial to Gen Z). I've mellowed out, I've learned from the life I've had, and I've tried to broaden my thinking. I'm also not looking for the same things they are, and frankly not offering a lot of the same things they are. C1) Middle-aged women have a veste…

In my experience, yes. Unfortunate, but what was I going to do, deny that they were behaving like I owed them something? Give them what they thought they were owed, quite against my will? What kind of stupidity is that?

Sorry, that was meant to be filed under "dudes in general". I'm not averse to atheists, as long as the respect is mutual. Really, that can be said of most of what I want: the respect has to be mutual.

All right, so I may be a little dim. I thought I was answering "besides looks and sex, what has that equivalent thing been for you as a woman?" and I'm saying "There isn't one. I skate by as a woman on looks and potential for sex." At best, I could say "improved social skills" given I've made a concerted effort in that sphere, and "more education". And according to the table you showed me, I'm around a 5-6. That probably speaks to the expectations of the men around me more than it does my own un…

To answer this question, honestly, there was never a time I couldn't have gotten someone. I met a lot of people I didn't quite mesh with, and then I decided it must be me and cut myself off for five years. I believe this is called "nun mode"?

an average looking, above average intelligence and average earning/wealth man You've just described, like, all of my crush material. What I'd categorize as 8+ tends to creep me out because at least the ones I've met have come off as strangely entitled. So nature blessed you with looks, so what? Do you like small children and animals, would you come with me to church? (Or at least be civil to my rector when she stops by to chat? Atheists are cool people too.) In one sense I get it: yeah, it's nice if he can tuck you under his chin and cherish you and all. I consider that rather a personal preference; if it's a preference other women share, then colour me clueless about womankind. :) But there are limits! Women my height should not be looking much taller than midrange -- 5'9" is already stretching it. Oh, terrible pun. If he's otherwise a great match, naturally height shouldn't matter, but why intentionally create your own headache? Or in my case, bac…

Truth. Vast height differences aren't so much "sexy" as "oh God, get me a stepstool, my back is going to crack from being bent over at this angle".

I grant you, I'd prefer my mate be taller than me, but that's because there are very few ordinary men who are 4'11". (If you're a little person, you're not going to get as tall as me.) Men tend to start at 5'2" and get taller from there, unless there is a serious hormone issue going on.
