Here in England hundreds if not more people are left blind and permanently scarred each year due to liquids being thrown in someones face during a confrontation or robbery. In some parts of the UK mainly the Midlands they do ot on religious grounds becuase daughter or something has brought shame in the family. It's very common more common than I like to admit.
