Unfortunately, people are selfish. it's not about "poor shaming", it's how they actively chose to keep a LIFE that they cannot afford - that they willingly deprive them of what the life needs to thrive - basic healthcare, good nutrition, space to thrive etc - just because they want a companion. same reasons why poor people have children that they can't afford etc. god awful but unfortunately nothing we or anyone except themselves can do to prevent from happening.

Why is hair so important? I get a lot of compliments from having naturally thick, full and slightly wavy but healthy hair. Sure it looks good but how much do men really care, it’s just hair...

Wait, I still don't quite get the gist of this. So men who date college educated women do so only because of the circumstances, not because it is an actual minimum requirement? College education is bare minimum these days. And why would a highly educated man not care? Would they not want to have someone who is an intellectual equal? That they can actually talk to about their deepest interests?

Set a date to leave New York if you haven't found work. Ask your SO to help you make this plan. Accepting his judgment of you is the first step to having your own life (as his first mate.) good idea, but leaving NY = leaving him too. hmm.

demonstration of a woman's character and femininity through the work may be attractive. how does one demonstrate their femininity through work? agree that non-family raising AND non-working lifestyle is unattractive. I am terrified of it myself when I look at my "stay-at-home" mother who spent most of her life between dinner parties and malls.

I see. Well it is indirect help in that I never paid to live at home, and that I had a lot of resources from family - never had student debt, never paid for much really until I moved out to NYC.

I like your questions! I do worry that he WOULD reject me if I don't work. He seems to think that me not having an income would be a huge issue. And he made it clear I need to be "financially independent" which I actually am, at least for the next 5 years or so. And yes, he seems to think I am somewhat entitled. He was quite surprised when I told him my parents are PREPARED and willing to pay for my grad school. I don't think however, that I would become "boring" without working - I've been doin…

Well, not only does he have a PhD, his ex-wife had a PhD too (they divorced because she was the one who cheated on him). From what I can tell, he seems concerned about me not having an income, and I'm not sure he would feel OK to support me (which I do not expect anyway).

What part of my statements did you not believe in? That I'm supporting myself because of how much I actually did save or something else? That would be useful so I know how to clarify. As to the job issue some men don't want to be with a girl they think is spoiled or lazy. Maybe don't act so relaxed about not having a job and he will think you are actually motivated Thanks for this - agreed and will take note.

Well, our relationship is great otherwise, and he is very much attracted to me - both physically and emotionally. Ultimately, he said besides the attraction, he feels most appreciated, accepted, comfortable, REAL around me; I'm also a very considerate, loving and affectionate partner. We have intellectual and colorful conversations; I'm always curious about his hobbies and even sometimes his work.

Moved to NYC, and they CAN support me if I need but currently I am using my own savings. Point here though is my current unemployment which seems difficult to get out of.

Thank you for your thoughtful analyses! To clarify: Why I am not working: Just moved to a NYC to explore opportunities, but pretty difficult to get a job without the right contacts & qualifications. I have a BA Sociology, worked for a few years in operations & then freelance. Got rejected by many firms here. It's QUITE a competitive market; I'm not giving up. My SAVINGS come from OWN earnings, when I PREVIOUSLY had a job. Didn't need to spend much as I lived at home. In the future, when needed, …
