Late to the party, but here's what I think: A lot of the "bitterness" that's stereotypically associated with incels is largely due to societal rejection and hurt for factors that other commenters mentioned, i.e. being unattractive, whether in appearance (being ugly) or speech or mannerisms (being awkward, or autistic/otherwise neurodivergent). Stuff like this has actually led me to rethink the concept of patriarchy and why it might actually exist. Men bear the brunt of responsibility and consequences due to their perceived strength, while women are divorced from responsibility and therefore being held accountable due to their perceived weakness. Ironically, women end up benefiting the most from patriarchal ideas about sex, contrary to what a lot of feminists would argue.
