I agree that TV has become a lot harder to watch, but that doesn't really apply to The Mindy Project. The show is bad (as in unfunny), but it not because it's "a TV show about a female doctor having trouble finding a guy as good as her". The show really focuses on how society has given Mindy unrealistic and overly entitled expectations and how this prevents her from being in a healthy relationship. I agree that it is pathetic to waste money on a total stranger as a way to try and impress her. But remember, this only happens to attractive women. It is more accurate to say that if you aren't exceptionally handsome or witty, then you have to pretend like you are rich to impress a pretty girl. Ugly girls would do the same for pretty guys if it sometimes worked.
