i just don't feel like arguing right now lol. if the decision was mutual between the husband and wife to have her or him stay at home with the kids while the other one cultivates an economically viable skill if they break up one is at a severe economic disadvantage. alimony is to help bridge that gap somewhat. sure its probably antiquated and needs to be updated for modern times but a complete elimination of it would be unwise until the minimum wage becomes a living wage.

so the husband works a job making 100k a year. the wife takes care of the home and children etc until they leave. shes now 50 years old with no skills and finds out her husband is cheating on her and files for divorce. is she now expected to survive on minimum wage and somehow save up enough for retirement in 10-15 years while her husband gets to keep his fancy job that he spent 30 years working on and not atleast support the wife in the least.

naw what happens when you throw a 50 year old housewife into the job market? sure the rules should be changed but completely abolished would be ludicrous. also you gotta think about the kids etc
