First, I was trying to be funny. Secondly, I find a 6'2" 200 lb woman anything but unassuming. Third: That article only made me angry because of Dawkins' flippant response. He has no idea what it's like to be a 5'1" tiny woman, living in a society where 1 in 6 women is going to be the victim of a sexual assault. If a man finds a way to isolate me and prevent me from escaping, whether or not he does so intentionally, my spidey-sense is going to start to tingle. I'm going to get that feeling we di…

Fine. I get into an elevator with a 6'2" 200 lb. woman body builder who repeatedly tells me she "...likes the cut of my jib" and proceeds to awkwardly hit on me. I am just as afraid of her as I am of the dude. Trust me. It's a physical thing...not a "he's a man!" thing.

Your last statement hit the nail on the head. Imagine yourself as a 5'1", 105 lb woman being followed to that water fountain by a 6'2" man and him standing behind you....very closely. There aren't any other people in the building except you and this man. You are, literally, defenseless if he attempts to physically harm you. Wouldn't you heighten your level of awareness as to what's going on around you? Try to determine what movements he's making in your periphery? Even leave the situation as soo…

But if you're wrong (about me not being a whore) nothing bad happens. If I'm wrong (about you not being a rapist), I get raped. There's a massive difference there. I don't assume all men are rapists, and as I said, I don't know any women who do. But if you behave in a threatening way, I'm going to feel threatened. If you don't behave in a threatening way, I'm not. Threatening men are threatening. They could want to mug someone, or beat someone up, or, yes, rape someone. Unless a man behaves in a…

If I behave like a slut (no matter how I am dressed), do you feel threatened? If you behave like a rapist (trying to touch me without my permission, refusing to leave my personal space, continuing to chat me up after I've made it clear I want nothing to do with you), then I'm going to feel threatened. I don't know many women who assume all men are rapists, and I don't know many men who assume all women are whores. But the difference is in the potential for violence to occur.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
