I just divided the women's shelters by the number of men's shelters. There are roughly 2,000 women's shelters in the US (though some sources say 1,500) and only one men's shelter, which opened up in Arkansas last year. Two main reasons I prefer to look at the 12 month figures: 1) Memory is unreliable. The further back you go, the less accurate your results are going to be. Thanks very much! I've managed to either correct the rates or the terminology used to hopefully be more accurate. I also added a note regarding the average victimization rate of students vs non-students considering all the data and added a screenshot of the definitions used in the recap so that these rates are clear as can be. And you're definitely right. Getting just the single "completed rape" stats seems to prove quite difficult and only made worse by the vague definitions used.

That stat says 2.1 per 1000 (1.1 for just completed rape), so the extrapolation would be closer to 14%, though I'm not sure how accurate that would be since the rate changes through the years and risk goes down as you get older.

I noticed a glaring lack of any legal issues on the /r/feminism side. No court cases and the personal "oppressive" stories seemed to a minimum, whereas I saw many posts of personal stories that demonstrate disadvantages faced by men. Rape was the most serious topic mentioned, but it was only a post about what Republicans say about rape.

That's kind of the point they're making. The ideas are radical, but the target audience is not. The women writing and commenting on this consider themselves part of the sensible "everyday" feminism that rightfully defends women against oppression. In actuality, while they may not be as overtly toxic as someplace like Radfemhub, they still have the distrust and disdain for men that you need to in order to buy into patriarchy theory in the first place.

The response makes sense, but the double standard doesn't. If I were to approach a pair of people making an assumption about the woman, it would be considered sexist. For example, if I worked at a hardware store and approached a man and woman, but spoke to the man first, it's seen by feminists as a commentary on how we view women in society.

Yeah, that was the most infuriating part. MRAs were brought into this when they didn't even need to be. RoK makes it explicit that they're not involved with the MRM. On top of that there's now a "correction" on the article at the end saying RoK isn't associated with MRAs but the title and content mentioning MRAs remains. So the only indication that it's targeted at men is the big word "MEN" directly above the note? That's pretty subtle... Also, the fact that the things that rape "is not caused by" are common feminist talking points that people supposedly use to victim blame. Look, the message is pretty clear.
