Yeah I moved in with my husband before we were engaged because my housing situation fell through and I couldn’t move back in with my abusive family. Its worked out well so far but that was quite a gamble. I keep an extra room in my house (when I can afford it) so that my sisters will have a place to go.

I always get migraines on my period, I take progestin only BC and it’s helped a lot. I also deal with PMDD so I just skip my period every month to avoid dealing with the problems I face. I go back and forth on whether or not I want kids but I really do want kids, just in the right circumstances, so I honestly daydream about getting my uterus and ovaries removed after I have my kids. They have not, to this point, done me much good.

I grew up LDS (Mormon is kind of an outdated term) and it’s exactly like that. It’s definitely a conservative community with a lot of issues regarding purity specifically and there’s plenty of patriarchy, but it certainly sets up a certain standard of appearance. All the guys I knew at church were well dressed and well groomed, not just at church but also socially dressed better than the men I knew who weren’t part of the church. Dates were also nicer on average as there is a higher standard of …

I want to adopt. My husband and I have discussed it extensively, I’ve already had a miscarriage and it sucked. I always wanted to foster and adopt, even back when I was a little girl playing with baby dolls. I’m from a big family (trust me when I say bigger than most) and have effectively raised most of my siblings because my mother was too ill to leave her bed. They are my pride and joy and no one would ever be able to tell me I haven’t mothered them. I don’t need to know a child is biologicall…

Have you listened to Lolita podcast? It does a deep dive into how Lolita the cultural icon came into existence and specifically has an episode on Lana Del Rey and tumblr

I think she’s had a lot of growth with her most recent albums, “tolerate it” in particular seems like she’s really turning a page here. Unfortunately a lot of musicians appeal to pickme culture because that’s the culture we live in which makes it hard to have any unproblematic faves.

I’ve been 100% from home for the last almost year and my office has slowly started opening back up, with no more than 4 people in the office at a time. One of my coworkers who I’m friendliest with has started going back into the office, only to be cornered and harassed by one of our other coworkers. She’s made it very clear to him that she’s not interested and finds his behavior inappropriate, being much gentler than I would have been, but he hasn’t stopped coming to bother her, including trying…

At this point, I don’t even know what I’m supposed to tell my sisters to stay safe. Even after you tell them no, multiple times, your “bad date” from the night before can KIDNAP you and crash the car with you in it.

I’ve gotten soooo many comments about how when they first met me they wouldn’t have thought I was smart enough to graduate from university with my bachelors at 19. Cue the Elle Woods: “what, like it’s hard?” I’ve been told I’m too pretty to be this smart, or that people only think I’m smart because I’m good at memorizing facts. Bringing down my intelligence is always a big thing, more so than my looks. The second men find out about my scholarly interests/pursuits it becomes a competition they’re…

There’s a really good Behind the Bastards episode on the antivaxxer movement and how complicated the history of vaccines is. I work in medical research and I understand why women have to be skeptical of doctors, we have so many doctors reported every year for human subject rights violations and it’s usually only after they’ve been been abusing the people enrolled in their studies for years. It’s truly wild.

“If women have sex with me when they don’t want to because they think I’ll harm them if they don’t have sex with me then it’s not really rape right? Just the implication of rape?”

They’re all depraved but Dennis is such an excellent example of depravity because from the outside he looks like he fits into society and that is why I made my sister watch that episode when she started dating and guys tried to pick her up to take her to their houses on the first “date” and I said NOPE.

I’ve seen him in downtown Phoenix calling himself a shaman. I am routinely embarrassed by some of the people who call our state home and how they choose to represent our state.

I love this show because they use Dennis as an explicit way to show men how creepy conventional dating strategies are. “The implication” gets me every time.

Oh my gosh are you me? High school was a nightmare as the only girl in a group of guy friends, they terrorized me, made alllll the sexist jokes, negged me, and would leave me out of activities that were “just for the guys”, but made fun of me for spending time with my girl friends because that meant I was somehow “weak”?? Looking back now my life would have been so much easier back then if I had met the women friends that I had in college back in high school and ditched those chumps.

Check out the Lolita Podcast by Jamie Loftus, I think she does a great job of explaining just how Lolita (the book) has been reinterpreted by society to promote pedophilia. She provides a very nuanced perspective on the cultural history of Lolita and how it’s become the symbol of the sexually precocious, female child aggressor instead of the story of a child who was kidnapped and abused by a pedophile making excuses for himself. Listening to her shit on Stanley Kubrick for the 1962 movie version…

Wow nothing gets me hot and bothered like a grown man filming himself singing 90s hits for me in an effort to get me to sleep with him, can’t believe she wouldn’t give such a stud like him a chance! 0/10 for singing ability, 2/10 for his use of emojis, and 10/10 audacity points for “loving” the peace out picture she sent him

Folklore and Evermore show just wild amounts of growth and development lyrically. You can tell that she’s more introspective and critical of her relationships. “tolerate it” is such an excellent portrayal of taking your power back from a relationship that does nothing for you emotionally.

I’m so sorry, for both you and your mother. Generational trauma is so messy. My mom also turned to religion, had a bunch of kids, and kept us as far from the world as possible. She also has little empathy for us as her children when it comes to assault or violence. She surprisingly pulled it together for my sister after her assault but then privately told me she thought my sister needed to just move past it because violence is a natural part of life. I was livid and told her never to say anythin…

They know the predators because they are predators, and if they aren’t, they’re protecting their friends, fathers, brothers, sons, uncles etc. They know, but they don’t care.

My mom’s cousin (who everyone knows raped his two stepdaughters, who are now thankfully completely distant from him and have no interaction) is present at every family event. I refuse to be anywhere that he will be present and make it known that it’s because I don’t hold space with pedophiles. It’s started shit, but I really don’t care. He’s blood, and the girls weren’t, so the family picked him. It baffles me how people can just accept rapists and pedophiles and abusers of all kinds and not que…

Thank you. ❤️ I love them so much and want so desperately for them to live safe and happy lives. I worry I’m making them paranoid. How do you tell young girls that they have to be on their guard for the rest of their lives? But how do you not tell them that?

My mom and I recently had a conversation about all the ways men have hurt her and it was extremely painful. We have a complicated relationship, mostly because she put me in the role of co parent and therapist very early on, but realizing that most of her decision making is rooted in trauma from molestation, rape, and abuse was eye opening to me. I didn’t tell her my own stories of assault, but when you get older and “compare notes” with other women, we’re all living in the same hellscape reality…

My husband and I moved across the country because we both needed to move somewhere with better job opportunities, after a few years in that place, Covid hit and everything went remote for both of us. We got the all clear to move to remote work permanently and moved quickly back to my hometown to be closer to my family since I missed them so much. He has family here too, but by far we are closer to mine. We both agreed to never move far again, family is important to both of us and we’re going to …

I have no interest in sports I can’t play myself, so most men’s sports. I know a lot about the sports I care about, but only the women. When men try to talk to me about football it makes me want to scream. When I see women invested in football (a sport where women are not represented in any professional team) I want to cry for them. Why spend so much time and energy on a sport you can’t even play? And with that, why are men so obsessed with watching football, basketball, soccer, what have you, b…

Did we have the same childhood? I never left the house without first having to complete some kind of “list” of chores/various tasks, usually involving making dinner or at least prepping it. I was allowed to play a sport because practice was in the morning and I helped set out the clothes for the younger kids at night so they could get dressed. When I joined a band in high school I had to drop out of it within a few months because I could never make all the practices and these dudes didn’t unders…

That’s part of the reason I only want daughters. I cannot stand how people prefer sons and see them as “completing the family” while the daughters are just extras. I’m the oldest in a big family and as the eldest daughter I saw so many double standards. I was expected to cook, clean, and look after children while my brothers were essentially treated like princes for continuing the family name. When my brother in law and sister in law had their first child, a girl, they were asked immediately if …

We met at work! We were both college kids teaching swim lessons and he had an amazing way with the kids and parents, and was super sweet and gentle and EXTREMELY respectful to a lady in her 70s he taught to swim. He always shut down any sexist or offensive comments other guys we worked with made. We dated through college and got married a few years after getting established in our careers. He’s always prioritized my needs and our future family together. I had just gotten out of an abusive relati…
