For you to ignore frequency is to ignore impact. It’s really just you hyper focused on not feeling like your lived experience gets as much air time as others’ . Your lived experience sucked— it shouldn’t have happened and as a society i hope we work to make it not happen. It probably happens more than we know and is documented (just like women suffering from sexual harassment). That doesn’t mean that every critical discussion of men (or even a subset of men) needs to have your voice present sayi…

I’m really not. How often do you get catcalled? How often do you get groped at concerts? And while i feel for you, your situation sounds like it was shitty, you’re not really doing any better on the anecdote front: one bad incident (no matter how bad) doesn’t establish a pattern of behavior. If women were saying “this one time ten years ago one bad thing happened” it would be wayyyy different. They deal with this MUCH more regularly than we do. It doesn’t mean you deserve any less concern or car…

Have you asked your husband if you having sex sooner would’ve impacted your relationship trajectory? My response is that I think you’re conflating all that prep work with being specifically for dating. That’s a HUGE deceit that FDS pushes, that all of this work isn’t really something you want to do but something you feel compelled to do, and only to impress men. This type of prepwork is paid the most attention to by other women, and i can almost guarantee that any guy worth his salt would be hap…

“Efforts in balance” is great! I have no criticism of that. I also do not think that is an attitude FDS regularly espouses. I know FDS likes to model the self investment angle as being worth the price of admission for dinner, but I also think they expect much larger dinner tabs. And to not start splitting after you start dating regularly.

Hopefully you treated him with the same giving attitude you expected to show him that you valued his time and company.

I’m a guy, and in my experience women do not have the same lasting effect on men in such a casual and careless way as these toxic men do on women. We don’t need to be equal in our criticism of both genders: there aren’t two sides to every story. Men suffer from a lot of negative things in life more than women, and women suffer from different things more than men. The next time you get groped by a woman and feel traumatized by it, let us know. It’s literally never happened to me in my life. I’m s…

If you think gauging effort and interest is only solved by a nice dinner, I dare say that’s predictive of what the guy should expect in the relationship 🤷🏻‍♂️. It’s a really weird juxtaposition of misandry and misogyny here: women shouldn’t need to prove your worth (or you think their worth is self-evident), all the while saying that the reason for all of this is because you need to be protected. You’re punishing the wrong men here: you don’t want to be mistreated by bad men so you require good …

Making women in the image of toxic men is not a good idea. Self respect is not the same as being selfish— looking out for your needs and wants in balance with the needs and wants of others is being empathetic. So, sure: make sure to fight off the voice that says “please them at your expense” but also do not say “please me at your expense”

If it enabled you to become a better person, that’s great. But it strongly encourages incredibly selfish behavior, which is likely the type of behavior that traumatized you. If men who get taken advantage of by women (which FDS wholeheartedly encourages) and turn to more toxic behaviors, are we in a better place?

There’s very little you could call “kind” about FDS’ approach. It’s adversarial. Somebody else said it’s “extractive”, and that’s a great way to put it. I think of it as transactional, where the transaction is “in order for you to spend time with me, you need to be impressing me (with no mention of how i am impressing you)”. If you spend any amount of time browsing comments in FDS, you should regularly be seeing the more fringe perspectives get signal boosted, too.

95% of men could be “Good Men” (i think that’s way too high personally, but for the sake of argument. The remaining 5% are 1 in 20 men. If those 1 in 20 exhibit negative behavior towards women regularly, think weekly, then that’s 52 times per year. So, for every man there are 2 women having bad experiences per year from men, even though 5% of men are the real problem. Women have to deal with this reality. If you want to help the problem, you need to find the “1 in 20” guys and make sure they und…

I see a lot of Ben Shapiro Smiling faces in this crowd. Not sure I’d brag about that as being objectively attractive, but I know it has its crowd.

This is me, too. About double your age, but tired of having RedPill or FDS occupy too much real estate in my head. Mostly looking for a place where “discussions are had” and not “ideologies are weaponized and protected” or “toxic people are the bulwark of our subreddit”.

If you asked me this in my early 20s, my answer would’ve been “stay alone”. As i date more, and continue to date more, I started to realize that experience is the only effective evaluation of what is important to me. And, it remains critical to try to interpret that experience as objectively as I can. If i had one piece of advice to give to that early 20s self, it’s to assume you will be dating for decades, and that it’s only after changing and growing that you’ll even know what you want— and th…
