The innate sense of caring about the way you look is hardwired into us to up the chances of us finding (attracting) a mate to pass your gene. You said you already have a husband and kids so you’ve accomplished your biologies main goal. Congrats on that, the looks aren’t as important anymore but your character is! Sidenote: to better understand this, for a majority of history we were not monogamous animals, so we still behave as if having/attracting as many mates as possible is the ideal.

It’s definitely unconscious, maybe once every realizes they’re just another faulty Human with the same errors as everyone else we kill them and move to the next celeb we can impose our ideals onto.

We might think that way but most people don’t know it doesn’t feel right, they buy into the character the actors play. They buy into the “reality” stars ideal looking lives, they aspire to be like them

They have taken the place of mythical figures that we stopped believing in because they weren’t actual people. Now we use these (normal people) celebs but idealize them into being mythical gods to follow

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
