We already do. I work for the nhs in their genetic department. Some disease are autosomal recessive meaning both parent have to carry one faulty copy for the child to end up with two faulty copies, one from each parent. If we find the father does not carry a faulty copy of the gene this can mean the child has a de novo mutation but will typically mean he is not the father. Protocol dictates that we question the mother on paternity privately but we do not inform the father.
