I think a lot of men want relationships. I’ve had a bunch of 3-6 month relationships and 3 ltrs. 2 from school and 1 from work. That being said, when I dated online l wasn’t successful in finding ltr. Just a bunch of flings.

Women have other pressures like being a mother and raising her children and keeping a home. Luckily I love all of these things and am working towards a career in healthcare that offers me flexibility to work part time w good pay. I’m sure others feel they have to choose between the career they want and family they want.

My cousin is totally unhinged, has two kids from different marriages, is 23 with no professional skillset. She pulls in men all the time and they’re useless just like her. NOT close with that part of the family…

I agree w your comment. I also feel most people here just ignore a huge part in starting a relationship - meeting the right person. Finding one person that you are as interested in as they are to you is luck based. I know attractive people (conventionally attractive, educated, stable, well-rounded) single at 30, and I know ugly people (physically ugly, uneducated, completely unhinged) two divorces in at 22 with a “steady” relationship now. Luck and standards.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7452000/#!po=43.6170 “The differences in TLE (total life expectancy) and ALE (active life expectancy) between married and unmarried persons were greater among men than among women.” You are right it benefits both men and women but not to the same degree when referring to longevity.

It’s a proven fact that men gain more out of marriage than women. When I was at university I took a health psychology class and learned that men who have marital partners live longer than men without spouses whereas women who are single live longer than women who are married and child rearing. Women also initiate well over half of the divorces. I have no personal opinion on this but those are the facts.

I think not wanting to hook up with someone you’re currently in a long term relationship with is weird but the reverse isn’t true. Not everyone people choose to hookup with are long term worthy.

Yeah I’ve heard that’s true. I’ve been pretty lucky with online dating and I’m also an Asian woman so I read that we get the most attention. But to answer your question yeah I would definitely hookup with my ltr and that’s how our relationship started

I think that’s really weird if a woman wouldn’t hook up with their ltr. Not the case for me but can’t speak for anyone else I suppose

Yeah I’m in a ltr with a hookup. Definitely a hookup cause we just didn’t talk much at all and it evolved into something we didn’t expect.

When I was hooking up I was hooking up with the same guy for months at a time until it fizzled out or one of us broke it off. I didn’t necessarily just go for the hottest. Personality, living situations, schedules, and physical attraction were all part of it. I’ve been in a relationship with my now boyfriend for two years and he was one of my hottest hookups.

Another thing I’ll add is that my coworker said he had the habit of developing friendships with men 10-20 years older than him. He realized recently (now in his 50s) he was searching for the father figure he never had growing up. He holds a lot of resentment for both his mother and father. People are very lost nowadays. Men provide something women cannot provide and women provide something men cannot provide and I will die on that hill. I encourage you to move past this (as hard as that may be) …

I get what you’re saying because a coworker of mine grew up with a very absent father that treated him like a second rate son (he chose the other woman and the other kids he had with her). He describes to me how his life was not balanced and how he had no example to look upon when his own life unfolded. Your first paragraph in particular makes a lot of sense to me. Sorry you had to figure so much out on your own.

Kind of off topic but I actually know someone who decided to have 3 children of her own without there ever being a father (sperm donor). She said she was just at an age where there were no good prospects and she wanted a family so it was now or never. She does very well financially.
