I appreciate the suggestion as a recovered friend of Bill W and Dr. Bob. From 2010 to 2014 I was in a 12 Step group and had some wonderful sponsors. I’m of the minority that believe one can become fully recovered and that the Steps are a temporary part of one’s overall wellness. But since my convictions and beliefs are firmly in a Reformed Christianity form, I couldn’t last long within a people who only go so far as a “higher power.”

So, this might be better for a dedicated post, but how does one address and recover from a dopamine addiction? I was just telling someone this week how my experience within the church and laying bare my known faults has resulted in a lot of diagnosis, mockery, and “thoughts and prayers,” but little to no forgiveness 70x7, reconciliation, or just brotherly help. Routine is my beat friend. Always has been, personally, but especially so since March. I’ve changed up and adapted my daily workouts to in-home HIIT workouts and am pleased with strength, recomp, and endurance gains this year. I have daily routines I follow for meals, work, family time, etc., but also weekly routines for yard work, cleaning, certain meals, etc. The key for me is to awake everyday at 6am. That was what eventually caused me to break away. This was our first church after relocation and I led us to a lot of different churches to consider. Reformed complementarian here. Presently without a church after breaking away from a wayward PCUSA “church.” Past affiliations have included RCNA, a reformed Primitive Baptist church, and an unusual E-Free church where Arminians and Calvinists served and worshipped together in peace for decades. Then my family and I moved far away. While I’m no longer in a Cage Stage, I do see the vital importance of belonging to and serving a church with Reformed doctrine in practice.

Deep_Strength nailed my intent with that comment. I will add that my original, first comment was grounded in the Christianity 101 doctrine of God’s sovereign will. All things for His namesake (Psalm 23), His glory and our - the elect of Christ - good (Romans 8). All things includes the foreknowledge and predestining of our spouses, since marriage is the very analogy used by the Holy Spirit in Scripture to describe Jesus Christ and his true Church.
