We are the logging geologist. It's the guy who goes out with the strainer and gets the drilling returns out of the shakers. We take those into a little lab in a trailer, wash the cuttings and identify the rock we're drilling through. We give that data to the driller so we know where we are w/r/t the target formation, and we keep the log of the well so that the big boy geologists can create a good cross section of the whole area based on all the data from the wells the company has drilled.

You talking about lease roads in West Texas made me think that. About a year ago I had spent a few months mudlogging up in Ohio. I hope things open up for you soon. OPEC kinda fucked you by driving the oil prices so ridiculously low.

On top of this I also keep a couple of fleece blankets, a towel, a couple of liters of drinking water, a few packs of those toasted peanutbutter cheese crackers, a change of clothes including socks and underwear, and some steel toed boots. I totally agree about keeping some useful tools you usually won't need with you. As much as I end up driving around in the middle of nowhere, I'd rather have what I need to survive somewhat comfortably for a night just in case something goes wrong.
