I think a large part of the problem stems from the fact that government schooling has further eroded peoples' ability to think critically, as standards are at their nadir. This reminds me of Viagra ads, where the biggest selling point is couched as a negative, "call your physician if an erection lasts more than X hours." The listener, who has ostensibly not had a solid erection in quite some time, thinks to himself, "now THAT would be a good problem to have---take my money!"

I'm a native English speaker trained in formal writing and I agree with you. I don't necessarily believe it needs to be "dumbed down", but simply edited a bit. Without picking it apart (the content of his posts really is good), his sentence syntax is quite inelegant. I've considered buying his book, but don't think I could take such a large dose of it.

The ideal male physique has been pretty uniform throughout history (see Michelangelo's "David"). But you bring up a decent point which is that women probably prefer Brad Pitt's physique in "Fight Club" to the bodybuilder one many guys aspire to. The only time someone needs physical size (or the appearance of size) is to pick bar fights or intimidate/bully smaller men However defending yourself/deterring attackers is very important in any situation.

I would argue that this is because civilizing institutions (i.e., law enforcement, adjudication, etc.) did not have the same reach as they do in modern society. And the welfare state didn't exist to save women from their bad decisions or misfortune. Therefore, men were protectors. Women still had a very real physical threat as well as a resource-based one (these could arguably be one and the same) and being nice to men was literally a matter of life or death.

Good point. After eschewing a JD, I think some part of me is fixated on obtaining some sort of graduate credential. I probably won't be a coder for the rest of my life, so I figure the breadth would help. And if I'm honest, I wouldn't mind being around college/college girls again (probably not a good reason). Will continue to think on it. I got myself up to 200/05 lbs at one point. It takes a lot of effort (i.e., eating) and makes cycling/running considerably more laborious.

Sticking with politics, I think the best original example of this was Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. He would argue with guests, throwing factual jabs and disarming/humiliating them with humor. In the event that they came up with a good counterargument, he would just throw up his arms and do the whole "I'm just a dumb comedian, why are you even arguing with me?" bit. It was infuriating to watch and I'm happy to see people on the Right (e.g., Milo) adopting the strategy.

I do think women are like gold, but in the best sense of the word. Gold represents real value/wealth. Young, pretty women do have very real value to men (you could probably say they are intrinsically valuable); if they weren't valuable to us, we wouldn't spend all this time talking about them and how to acquire them on these forums. To say otherwise sounds like one is deluding himself. A fellow does not spend a large amount of time thinking about and discussing things he doesn't care about.

See people like Paul Graham, Peter Thiel, Reid Hoffman, Stewart Butterfield, etc. I'm not telling you to get a Philo degree if you want the most direct route into tech; what I am saying is that it's often denigrated as useless, but it's actually good proxy for intelligence (as it's probably the hardest liberal arts degree and logic is a core component).
