Indeed the "how things should run around the place" doesn't go against OP's appropiately proper money-spending but it's OP father being petty and stubborn for some reason but I think he is actually concerned more about drugs & cigarettes/alcohol than OP's clothing choices but he's afraid to tell him to not appear like a 'fag' if you know what I mean. ​ So, he awfully misdirected his arguments to clothing and style which is seriously crystal-clear here that is not the issue.
