Autism itself is not necessarily a dealbreaker, but it’s definitely something I would have to think over because I want children & frankly, I don’t want my kids to be autistic. I’ve seen how much psychological damage severe autism does to a young family, especially if several of their children have it. It’s truly horrendous for the mothers. As far as just dating though, it depends HEAVILY on what behaviors are associated with their autism. As you mentioned in your example, I know it’s normal for…

A partner voicing their opinion should not be “destabilizing” to the other partner. Healthy communication goes both ways (as in both partners taking turns on the ‘speaking’ role & the ‘listening’ roles). Communication is the opposite of ruining a relationship.

Does it distinguish between your maternal ancestry and your paternal ancestry? My sister and I know that our maternal line was from the general Southern Africa region, possibly Madagascar, but we have different fathers so I’m more curious about my paternal line.

I’m not covering shit. I don’t particularly want to be friends with cheaters anyways; clearly we don’t have the same moral standards. Good riddance. EDIT: My bad, I didn’t see that it was a Q4M.

I don’t think it’s a waste if you truly find a qualified one that you click with. The major issue to me is that there’s an INSANE amount of awful, unqualified therapists along with a general shortage of therapists in most developed countries. There’s not enough of them to go around, and the ones that do exist aren’t accepting new patients or have months-long waitlists. Finding a therapist that’s 1) qualified, 2) that you like/click with, and they’re 3) accepting new patients, and their services …

You conflated two entirely different issues in one comment. Splitting the bill is absolutely not a sign that a man will be a violent POS. Maybe he just believes in equality of the sexes because both sexes are capable of paying for their food, or maybe he’s broke and can’t afford to pay for two. There is no abuse happening in either instance.

Yeah, I really think it’s a culture/regional thing. I’m in the American South and personally I’m basically never catcalled either. I’m not doubting the experiences of others, but it has to be deeper than “womanhood” because it’s not a universal woman experience at all. EDIT: Maybe once by a classmate in middle school

We should always “shame” abusive relationships. We already DO ban adults from dating/having sex with minors (age power imbalance) for this very reason. What does being gay or dating interracial have to do with abuse or power imbalance? A more accurate analogy would be a boss dating their direct report employee. If the employee has to risk getting a pay cut or fired if they want to break up with the boss, it’s pretty obvious why that would be a issue. The other examples you mentioned (height, sex…

But there is a value imbalance. The man has more value than the woman which is abusive to the man. Wtf is a “value imbalance”? How is a man more valuable than a woman? How is it anyone else's business what consenting adults do in their relationships? That’s the entire point. The one with less power CANNOT consent BECAUSE of the power problem. Before labor laws, employees didn’t “consent” to work 80 hours a week in dangerous conditions; they had literally no other options to feed their family or …

even “normal,” “nice” people (men especially but women too) tend to power trip and get abusive when they can. The name escapes me, but that famous study done on normal college students pretending to be prison guards suddenly showing abusive tendencies and going mad with power on the pretend-criminals in a matter of days/weeks is a very relevant example of this.

That was a very weak, fallacious analogy. For one, abusive relationships are a far more frequent occurrence than a parachute not opening. If you must go with a cliff diving example, a better analogy would be that if cliff diving was a team sport that required Person A to have an independent functional parachute (representing high power) and Person B to have a parachute that will only open at the voice command of Person A (representing low/no power). And then the cliff diving dynamic continuing f…

I mean this genuinely, not in a snarky way: You should seek professional help if you think somebody caring about a relationship’s abuse risk means they “don’t get horny enough”. It’s extremely concerning if situations like a secretary becoming homeless because they got fired for refusing to have sex with their boss is “hot” to you.

Precisely

That situation you describe as “hot as fuck” is only hot when those people are horny at that exact moment (assuming they even have a “power imbalance” kink, which is a big assumption). For the other 99.7% of life that isn’t sexual, needing your partner’s approval to make basic decisions about your life is not sexy whatsoever. It’s nightmare-ish and ripe for abuse. Risk of life-threatening abuse is not something to take lightly because “b-b-but sexual roleplay!”

The point is that usually the power imbalance relationship has no benefit to the person on top except for the power. They have nothing to gain except for the potential to harm someone vulnerable. That should raise eyebrows as to why they would seek out a relationship like that in the first place. Bingo

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. Typically two people in a marriage do not desire to have a “parent-child”, “manager-employee”, and “police-civilian” dynamic as you described. There’s zero need for those roles in a relationship where the couple are adults (as in, NOT children or employees). ETA: If you mean power imbalance in general, it’s a problem because situations where one person is very reliant on the other (and not vice versa) makes them incredibly vulnerable to manipulate/abuse w…

As far as I’ve seen online, I think it’s more about being consistent(?) with the men. They oppose being made to wait only after they find out the woman had a dozen ONS before him, and he’s the odd one out.

Hmmm I understand that but I disagree. I think of spouses who’s partners have cheated but they stay because they love the cheaters so much. Loving them doesn’t mean their partners are actually /trustworthy/ because they have proven that they are not. That being said, yes, that dynamic usually does become dysfunctional. I maintain you can love without trusting their ethics, but I actually see your perspective.

That’s true but on the flip side, it is entirely possible to love someone who is not trustworthy. Think of people whose spouses have cheated on them but they stay with the cheaters out of love.

I get what you’re saying but I definitely disagree. You can love someone while also knowing they are untrustworthy. Love and trust are two inherently separate ideas. For example, my mom has a serious addiction issue and can not be trusted to manage her money properly without ending up homeless (has happened at least 4x now). I love my mom without a doubt in my mind. Just because I love her does not mean she is necessarily trustworthy at all.

I’m telling you I did read and understood what you said. All I’m saying is women doing “unpaid household labor” and simply the /existence/ of the easily-solved-with-a-conversation-or-a-breakup disparity in chores is really not a good example of a modern society being misogynistic NOR is it similar of life-taking racism. (Correct me if you think I’m genuinely getting it wrong without assuming I’m sexist. I didn’t take issue with any other part of your comment besides that.)

I read your reply throughly. It was a very thoughtless reply though. The male S/O that doesn’t like to wash the dishes (which just means the couple needs to communicate?) is not similar at all to slavery for the female S/O. I mean this nicely, get over yourself. (Also acknowledge this is awful timing on your part considering the very recent racist killings of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery)

How do you make the assumption that I’m sexist based on my reply?

Please don’t compare choosing to vacuum and do the dishes to actual slavery. That’s... idiotic at the absolute BEST

That’s exactly my perspective. You can’t really say somebody would or would not act the same if their dating life played out differently. Some people are incels because of mental/emotional health issues, for some people they can’t read body language and/or genuinely have no game, others maybe aren’t that concerned about having sex during 18-24 in the first place. I know it’s fun to stereotype but chances are, having a date or two in high school wouldn’t drastically affect their long-term outlook…
