That's even more difficult than getting custody rights, though. My dad's been going through a situation like this since his last divorce. Non-biological father to a now-fifteen year old girl, and she doesn't know anyone else as her father. I'm not sure exactly what happened or whether there's been any legal work done, but I still see her at family gatherings (without her mother), but not more often than that.

We don't know that she's a horrible woman, but she did a horrible thing bringing that kind of mindset into family court, and someone corrected her properly for probably the first time in her divorce. It's probably better that she cheered like that in public so that people could show her the right way, so maybe we'll see a video of her or her daughter down the line doing the same thing this judge just did.

Yes :) I've even seen first hand forty-year-old women blaming drunkeness on date-rape drugs. She went on a first date with a man, and came back extremely intoxicated. The rest of the family I was with at the time (I was visiting friends) took her side and started defending her, but not making any legal accusations. Turns out later that she'd had a stomach ulcer, which, it turns out, greatly increased her blood alcohol level on the date. Regardless, the amazing thing here is that they used a MALE…

Presumably that's why she's cutting everything in half and calculating the cost per-child. The math checks out.

This isn't intersectional meninism or something. We are interested in fixing wrongdoings done to men based on their gender, and that alone. Most people in this subreddit agree that open homosexuality is fine and acceptable. Unless it's targeting gay men over lesbian women, "praying the gay away" is by no means an MRA issue.
/r/MensRights26/07/16 02:16 AM

Yeah, men tend to disagree with each other enough to make clear borders, while women don't. Choice/Intersectional feminism is probably as close as you can get.

Milo stands up to feminist bullshit This is probably the biggest point because third-wave feminism has become such an issue for men.

Nothing says we can't support him and people who are 100% (I'll call it "orthodox") MRAs. Hell, I would much prefer to support Milo for even a single facet of MRA than some orthodox MRA from this sub because Milo has put in the effort to get something done.

An opposing force at the time was Everclear: they used lyrics that discussed some of the most "depressing" subjects, but juxtaposed them with joyful music. Listening to that music was one of the best ways to remind myself how dumb I was for being depressed as a stupid teenanger.

Philosophically, there's one huge difference between the trolley and the roofie: In the trolley, you will absolutely kill a person, versus letting another 5 live. In the roofie, you have a number of options that you can't predict beforehand: If you don't do anything..., (Good Case 1) there's a chance, albeit low, that you let two people have a good time with one another (after all, some women do have rape fantasies, and they could be playing a game, though not likely) (Bad Case 1) There's a high…

I disagree. One of the great masculine traits is helping people in need. What they show in the commercial is completely correct in those four situations. Instead, the problem with the commercial is what they let out and imply. Classic Feminist style

Sure, in a perfect world Go The Fuck Home is a great strategy for IT, but it's never a perfect world in IT. If you "Go The Fuck Home" and leave stuff burning on the ground, you come back to either no job or worse, no promotion next cycle. The root cause behind all of IT issues is that because of the sheer number of people in the market willing to do the job, it's in constant competition, just like every other male-dominated career. Pushing more women (who happen to be "people" as well) just driv…

door-to-bumper. It was in one of those parking lots with diagonal spaces.
/r/MensRights26/11/15 03:33 PM

At worst, not much. It was a simple door-opening incident. :) I just found it very interesting how the mother prioritized her fear of strange men over the getting justice over the evil man. I did make sure that the girl took a picture of my insurance information in case their family decided there was noticeable damage once they saw it in the light.
/r/MensRights26/11/15 09:03 AM

It was actually a really pleasant interaction with the girl. She was inexperienced with what to do in this situation, so I told her to get my insurance information and such in case it was an issue her parents wanted to make a claim. I could hear her mom yelling at her to get out of there immediately because she mentioned it was a man who hit her bumper.

That is not the word I'm looking for. It is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masculism (I would not recommend reading through that article much since it seems to have been edited by people who think men are just insecure women). I recognize now how that could have been unclear, though, since I was responding to someone specifically asking about masculinity.
/r/MensRights24/11/15 08:03 PM

Again, you might be misinterpreting words. "To Discipline" is often used to mean "To Train", rather than the more specific "To train [using punishment to correct disobedience". Children love being trained positively.
/r/MensRights24/11/15 03:11 AM

You could also rewrite that as, "Children want to know how much they can get away with," in case anyone still thinks it's not the case.

There are a lot of answers, but when I think of Masculism/Masculinism (both of which, for the record, my browser fails to recognize as a word), the most common idea in my mind is that of a lone wolf: Powerful, quiet, commanding, and unperturbed by the goings-on of things that truly don't matter. Think Fight Club where Edward Norton's character unintentionally leads these other men to a path of fulfillment vicariously through his imagined, masculine persona. I actually think that persona is the r…

They seem to think that by not having a father, a boy will never become a "violent monster" or something, when the opposite is true.... By having a father who serves as a proper role model, such as those we celebrated with this International Men's Day, a boy knows what he's supposed to be.
/r/MensRights23/11/15 10:16 PM
4

Yeah, it does. I had the opposite but equivalent experience. Mine was a single father who couldn't give me everything I needed emotionally, even though he managed to provide for me. (Also, he was paying child support to my mother while I lived with him... I still don't understand that one)
/r/MensRights23/11/15 10:14 PM
10

I think you're misinterpreting this post by confusing longing for a spoiled want. I believe the post implies that what the father longed for as a child was to have a father who provided necessities, or to have a father who correctly disciplined his child. (positive reinforcement IFF the child does something deserving of the reinforcement, etc).

They don't just "[get] out of it". They are still at risk of suicide. The difference is that you can actually help them, but you can't help the dead.

ridiculous levels of privilege that woman have in our society Yeah, that's basically what I meant, but I was hoping to list off specific privileges that made it easier for women with masculine traits to feel comfortable in society (versus men with feminine traits). How is that not an issue for men? I just don't believe the issue is imbalanced away from men in the same way that other issues in our cause are. It's still an issue for men (I misspoke, for which I apologize), but also an issue for wo…

Logically, you should care to at least regard how many times it's attempted. Saying, "men are 80% of successful suicides", for instance, would be fine for arguments. Who cares how many times its attempted? Seriously? First, I was raised by a single father because my mother attempted suicide. She didn't just magically become successful afterward. I'm not a better person for it, so I, and others affected by it, care. Second, keep in mind that even for men, successful suicide rates are still betwee…

If all we got out of this day was someone on a popular news network to say the phrase "Male Genital Mutilation", it would be a successful holiday in my books.
/r/MensRights20/11/15 12:22 AM

I don't think suicide rate is as much of an issue for men as people make it out to be. The fact is, attempted suicide rates are nearly identical for both men and women. (Men are just better at it making sure it happens). Using it as an argument point without accepting that fact will only leave us with a hole in our debate. One thing similar to suicide rates that I would actually like to discuss, especially since this is also Trans Awareness Week, is the fact that there are more Male-to-Female Tr…

The explicitly-male one was lost in English (as opposed to its Germanic roots, which had a distinction). That's why we have since adopted "one" as the generic pronoun.
/r/MensRights30/10/15 07:41 PM
1

In fact, our sister language German uses the word "man" as the generic "you". (In contrast, the German word for "Man" (as in a male human) is "Mann". English has dropped this difference and become unnecessarily vague, though.

I have the same issue with this as I do with feminists abusing the word "he" in history to "prove the patriarchy exists". "He" is the general term for a person historically, similar to "one" or "oneself" nowadays. Another interesting thing about this is that the German word for "man", is "Mann", but the German word for the generic "you" is "man". Have you noticed that men don't even get a special word to describe them? :)

Jokes in my previous comment aside, I really don't recommend being friends with someone who treats you that way. I lived like that for a while, and it only ever led me to depression and feeling like I was stuck with them because they were my only friend(s). Hopefully there are some good qualities of this friend to make up for what you've revealed in this thread. If not, exercise the right to choose your own friends. :)

It's all about your point of view. The fact is that men as a demographic have a much more evenly-distributed skill level than women do. Most of the smartest people are men, but most of the dumbest people are men as well. The problem here is that she's saying women should make more money based on women supposedly being smarter.
