This is great. Thanks for posting this -- a very good reminder to guys that have just unplugged, newbies like myself, and RP veterans. The path never gets easier, you never reach the mountaintop. You just keep going.

I will admit that I've had to remind myself of that quite a bit. I've caught myself getting frustrated that my reassurances haven't calmed her down, and then remember it isn't my job to calm her down. My job is to be the Man. Thanks!

That's been my general feeling so far -- after around a year of trying to conceive, both of us at some point another wondered if we were sterile. We had never had a pregnancy 'scare' when dating (or prior to dating), so there was no real indication that the everything was in working order. Just having positive confirmation that it is possible was a relief -- however long it takes, I know now that we are able to have a child. Totally agree on that last bit. Thanks for the tips!

Damn, that must have been tough. I take it that you were successful in the end? Thanks for the info.

I'll definitely check both of those out - thanks for the tip. My sister taught her kids to sign from an early age as well, and it definitely helped diffuse some situations. Pretty amazing that they are able to communicate (semi-)effectively from such a young age!

Right? She's worried, I get it, and she focuses on what she isn't experiencing rather than thinking about the changes that have happened. Again, this is how I know she is just fishing for comfort and has pregnancy-addled brain. Yeah, she is right around there as well (9-10 hours).

Isn't that hilarious? She needn't even travel far down the Google wormhole to find something that would reassure her, but instead reverts to worst-case-scenario-thinking (AWALT, amirite?). I sent her a similar article yesterday when she brought it up and it calmed her down. That's a great idea -- I'll try and pepper in some lighter stuff like that. Thanks!

I laugh every time she comments on "not feeling pregnant" because of how ridiculous that sounds, bringing up the fact that you mentioned -- scores of women have no idea when they are or are not! You're totally right about drawing the distinction between doctor and friend. I'll be sure to bring this up the next time "advice" is transmitted our way. A personal goal of mine has to practice meditation in an effort to become more oak-like (and to combat any standard daily anxiety as well). I use the …

Wife has expressed increasing reluctance to include Friend in what is happening, as she knows her anxiety is being increased by the friend's thoughts. We don't see or interact with that couple much, but the ladies communicate intermittently. The good thing is that we have very good friends that we see regularly that don't contribute to her anxiety levels. And thank you for the congratulations and the offer -- I'll be sure to keep that in mind should any additional questions arise.

That's really interesting -- what does the red cloth purportedly do? Cool, that's generally been my plan. I wasn't sure if the broken record-type interactions we have been having were indicative that I was failing the comfort tests, but I will stay on this path. I'm happy that she is coming to me with her concerns -- she has expressed displeasure with her friend's and her mom's responses to various things over the last few months while referring to me as her rock. Sex has pretty nearly maintaine…

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep standing strong.

Thank you for your congratulations. With regard to your first comment, I feel pretty relaxed about it all (and she did call me her rock yesterday after the appointment). I just wanted to check and see if I was misinterpreting what she was asking for with her feelings of anxiety. My feelings of confidence and support are genuine -- I'm not anxious/depressed about it at all, and when the friend texted me yesterday literally saying "I hope you're with Wife right now in this hard time" I responded s…

Semi-update: while I was typing this, she messaged me on Facebook. Here is our conversation -- Her: I don't think I'm pregnant, so it's hard to feel happy. It's not real yet. Me: You are, it is. (Pregnant; real) Her: Okay :)

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
