3	I was denied access to a bike shop becasue I was a male. Am I right to be offended? What do you think would be a better solution? Women centred mechanics classes? There's obviously a need for more women in shops and riding, I think that the only thing that is in question is the method. I agree with you on this; I actually understand the need to get more women involved (there are precious few female mechanics, though the few that I know are really really good), but there seems to be a perception that the men are very intimidating or some such thing. I find it frustrating as well, but, well, that's life. I don't agree with it, but I understand and sympathize with how it made you feel; I have had a similar experience. 3	I was denied access to a bike shop becasue I was a male. Am I right to be offended? Bike shops (and bike co-ops) tend to be very male-dominated spaces. This can act as a barrier to entry for other people. So there's some argument that women/etc are disadvantaged, and this is what the bike co-op is trying to rectify. You can agree with it or not, that's your choice. edit: of course, instead of dealing with what I say via argumentation, you can just downvote too.
